Reviews for "-Dancing Flame-"

Quite

This is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for blessing my ears with this gorgeous piece of art. I haven't heard anything quite as magnificent since my first visit to Newgrounds, which was quite a long time ago.

Step responds:

Wow, didn't expect such a supportive review xP. Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed it!

Really cool

I could see this being put on loop in this scene:

You are in an organization of people who are supposed to save the world, and your primary language is Castilian Spanish. Currently you are talking to the boss (but the conversation is happening in text-form at the bottom of the screen, not really being vocalized), and he is assigning you your final mission.

Essentially I think that would be an ideal use of this song.

Step responds:

Heh, good idea. I wonder if this'll ever get used in a flash...

Thanks for reviewing :).

Impressive

I'm a bit of a sucker for jazz, and overall, I really enjoyed this song. I loved the melody, and the overall feel of the song.

My main criticism for this is that you seem to be stuck in a 'dramatic-epic song' mindset, and I always had the impression of latin music to be more upbeat and exciting as opposed to the darker, smoother sound found in this song. Maybe you had intended it that way, but it just seemed overly deviating from the genre.

Obviously, if it was intended this way, (i.e. another dramatic-epic song, just that this time it has Latin influences) then you can ignore the rest of this review because they are just my ideas of what a Latin song should sound like.

1) More brass. The fade is nice, but have it come in louder. More pizazz, and leave space between the notes so that when it is playing, it has more presence.
2) Slight change in the percussion.
A) Cymbals. Particularly the cymbal crash and roll. I love them. You love them. But get rid of them. They don't belong in a Latin chart. If you wish to keep them, then I suggest finding a different sample, one that has a slightly rougher sound and does not last as long (Drum set-like cymbal, not a concert band type)
B) Congas. Make them louder, and tone down the (Snare Drum?) used through the song
C) MOAR COWBELL!! ^_^
3) More variation in the sound+melody. While it works for a 1 minute song, if you ever plan on making it longer, it needs some variation

Anyway, thats my 2 cents on a Latin chart. I don't mind your dramatic-epic, but if you ever consider a second attempt, I would prefer it to have a more traditional Latin feel.

Step responds:

Wow I can never get a 10 out of you, can I ;D. But heck, this is a really detailed review. Thanks, as usual, for the excellent criticism!

"I'm a bit of a sucker for jazz, and overall, I really enjoyed this song. I loved the melody, and the overall feel of the song."

Great! Admittedly the melody didn't take too long on my part. It's the stuff in the background which I worked harder on actually.

Oops xD. But yeah I guess that's something I can't help but do when I make music. I can assure you it wasn't on purpose, but apparently everyone seems to think that this sounds dramatic/good for a fight, so I can't disagree over there xP.

Nah, it wasn't intended this way, so your review's going to help.

"1) More brass. The fade is nice, but have it come in louder. More pizazz, and leave space between the notes so that when it is playing, it has more presence."

I like that idea :D. I'll see what I can do.

How about I add some brass playing the guitar melody at the end? (i.e. at 0:40 I continue the brass except playing the melody that the guitar is playing). Might make the ending a bit more... end-ish.

"2) Slight change in the percussion.

Right...

"A) Cymbals. Particularly the cymbal crash and roll. I love them. You love them. But get rid of them. They don't belong in a Latin chart. OK. As I've said, I'm totally new on the whole Latin sound.

"B) Congas. Make them louder, and tone down the (Snare Drum?) used through the song"

Yeah I agree, I can barely hear the congas either >.>.

"C) MOAR COWBELL!! ^_^"

Moooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

"3) More variation in the sound+melody. While it works for a 1 minute song, if you ever plan on making it longer, it needs some variation"

Yeah. I don't know if I'll be making it longer - if I ever make some more Latin, it'll be in a new song probably, but I'll probably revisit this track sometime to try some of your suggestions.

"Anyway, thats my 2 cents on a Latin chart. I don't mind your dramatic-epic, but if you ever consider a second attempt, I would prefer it to have a more traditional Latin feel."

I'll keep that in mind :D.

Thanks a lot for the awesome review!

Cool. Never heard of it though.

In any case, thanks for reviewing!
