Reviews for "-Telepath RPG Chapter 1-"

Not bad

Since this is your first game I can understand some of the mistakes you've made. For one thing, personality and aptitude were totally useless. Even with learning your personality just to get Guy wasn't even worth it and you said aptitude helps you train faster? From what I've played, the cost and level up for the skills are exactly the same even if I had only 1 aptitude. Do not make up stupid shit just to get attention. The same goes for the high level books. If we can't play it in chapter 1, then don't put it in at all because it pisses people off.

One very important thing you forgot to do is to put the information for the defense/power/personality/aptitude "into" the game. It's annoying that I had to go to a website just to find out what each one does. And why did you have to make the running part so retarded? Next time make us hold shift or something. Also remove feedback and make pryoblast cost 5 points instead of 7. Feedback sucked ass and pryo wasn't even worth it because it costed a lot of points as well as a lot of gold to level up.

Now for the good points =] The style/chat/background was good and so was the gameplay. It was fun leveling up for an hour or so until I was godlike with high level mind blast. I admit the tent part was annoying for me and many other people (we're all impatient so don't forget that) but it wasn't as bad as other people mentioned. I'd recommend for the next chapter, gold would only be useful to upgrade your spells, while you should add experience points so you could choose to put them into defense/power etc. Can't wait for chapter 2 and hope to see lots of improvement.

As a last note, don't take complaints to the heart, but learn from it!

MalTheDestroyer responds:

I appreciate your attempts at constructive criticism, but you've got a few things wrong here.

1. Aptitude does, in fact, lower the cost of training. This is formula for raising your Psy Power, for example: powerupcost = (power*25)-aptitude*(power-1). So if your power is 4 and your aptitude is 5, you pay 85 gold--but if your aptitude is 9, you pay 73 gold. It ain't huge, but it adds up.
2. You actually can get the advanced books in this game--you just need an aptitude of 8 to buy them, is all.
3. Information on your stats is readily available on the character creation screen--click the buttons with the question marks.
4. You seem to think that every single special attack in the game is worthless, from Contact to Pyro Blast. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I'm sure others would disagree with you.

Anyway, I do appreciate the feedback, especially since you took the time to formulate it clearly. Thanks for the review!

it was okay

like everybody said sentries were to hard but after about thirty minutes of moving around aimlessly i found an easy way past them without ever having to go in a tent i liked the endings but you should be able to kill the final boss you didnt even let me try i give it an 8 and a 5

MalTheDestroyer responds:

Oh, you'll get to fight him...in Chapter 2. ;-) Thanks for the review!

Great potencial but many enormous flaws.

Firstly, the stealth area is too hard. In a normal stealth game, you start off simply, and build up in skill till you can handle hard areas. You also have skills to help you, and tips. In this game it starts off very hard, in the dark so you cannot plan a route, where you cannot see your enemies if they're coming for you, with an unknown objective and a slow character. To improve this, light the area up a bit, so you can see the buildings, give him a shadow sense so he knows if one is about to approach, and obvious hidey holes for him to wait in. When you cross genres you have to do it well or it's just annoying. Yours was annoying as it was way too hard to work out where to walk or where the monsters were moving without either a bigger vision area or a lot of time.

His hands. He looks like a pervert, dangling his hands out to grab whosoever is in front of him. Why?

Improve the character thing. First, no personality skill, as having a low skill means you can never get a party member. Same with aptitude for that matter. In a game this small you shouldn't restrict people from good conversation if they make a bad starting choice, as that annoys them. It annoys them even more if instead of people they get pokemon, as most of the battle are short, we just want to attack, and it looks horrible on the field. For that matter, they should have a bit of power so they can fight fairly well, possibly with a corresponding increase in your enemy's power. Neither of these features adds anything to the game.

These are the main pointers. This could have been 4.1 or 4.2, but some aspects were badly thought out, ruining this game for those without patience.

MalTheDestroyer responds:

You are certainly right that this game is not for those without patience! I also agree that your party members should be able to increase in power along with you, since the enemies scale to some extent--but I'm not sure whether to make it happen automatically or to include new options to train them. I might go with the latter option for the sake of simplicity.

I disagree about taking out Personality, however--I included it keeping in mind the role that Charisma played in the Fallout games. I always enjoyed playing characters who were smooth talkers. :-) And besides: if you put all your points into Psy power and Defense, you won't need to Contact allies for support as much.

it was really good

i liked this alot and i cant wait for part two although it probably sucks because all the progress you get in part one wouldnt be transfered into part 2 ...well anyways it was excellent and the graphics and sound were nice and it was pretty funny in some parts but keep up the good work ...one suggestion maybe u should be able to pick your appearacne.....(shit) sorry for the long reveiw

MalTheDestroyer responds:

Depending on what I decide to do with Chapter 2, I might update Chapter 1 with some script that lets you export your character as a code and then import him/her into the new game.

Thanks for the review!

uhhhhhh....

well,I can't really say this was good, and I can't really say this was bad. The animation could be alot better most of the time, and the character pictures were sometimes to sloppy to figure out what they were. The sound was pretty decent, but as time went on, it just got borin. Also, about the sneaking part. I find it a little too hard. And the final battle, for me, was just too hard to even try to beat it. It is a decent start for this series, but it REALLY needs to brighten up with a better look.
