Reviews for "Tribute to A. from Russia"

lmfao

that is cool, dude! i love to hate pokemon!

Could use improvement

The flash could use improvement but it didn't look like it was offensive to me. The only thing offensive about it was that it was off of an offensive attack by Terrorism. I'm also, Canadian.

Very Nice Flash...

Graphics - As a reviewer before me had already made clear, a slide show isn't really a good substitute for flash animation. However, I found this particular slide show to be most approrpiate for such an occasion. If nothing else, it still moved me...and I personally think animating this event would take away from how realistic it was. I think it was actually best left as a slide show. 10/10

Style - Pretty impressive work here. I really loved the "Sudden" change in music, flash, and over all feel; because thats how it really happened. In the blink of an eye all hell broke loose, and this flash did a great job at demonstrating that with its own sudden change in feel(music, types of slides, etc.). 10/10

Sound - Kick Ass! Would you happen to know where I might find the lyrics(in English)? Anyway, the music by itself moved me. It fit the flash really well, setting a kind of heroic and epic feel to the people suffering through the event. 10/10

Overall - Very Impressive work. I would like to comment on some of these other reveiwers, though.

To all of you who can't seem to take a tribute when it smacks you in the face, STFU, you're embarassing our country. Seriously. This is why America is perceived so often as "bigoted". Are we really at a point now where we can't even accept a tribute from a post-communist country? (Personally, I love Russians if you can't already tell). Even if this was some sort of sick joke, we shouldn't let that affect our judgement(we judge based on flash content, not on whether or not we agree with it).

Anyway, I applaud you, comrade. : ).

a weak slideshow with a mixed message

Alright first off I have to say that I'm quite sick and tired of seeing slideshows set to music being accepted into the portal. The FLASH Portal is designed to archive Flash and FBF animations, NOT simple slideshows.
I appreciate that sometimes people want to convey their emotions to others in a given medium, but if its not in an animated form please post it someplace else.
Anyways...

Graphics: As stated, this is a flash site, and as such this category is reserved for gauging the quality of a flash's animation. Thus I give this submission a one simply for the simple presence of visuals.
As for the slides themselves, I will say that the first set (with the operatic background) weren't bad, but then the actual attacks and aftermath pictures were presented in a non-linear order that caused a lot of confusion (i.e. pictures of the towers being hit, then crumbling, then the ruined streets and people crying, then the towers fully errect again.)
1/10

Sound: I'm extremely confused in this category. The first song (from a famous play whose name escapes me) was nice and set a decent mood.
But then the author showed the tragedy itself set to the tune of a rock band named Aria, which seemed highly out of context.
Now in the author's partial defence the lyrics are in Russian and as such it is hard to judge the context in which it is being used (for all we know it could be a song about personal loss or a passionate need for avenging a wrong, so its impossible to know for sure if its in bad taste). However it can be said it sounds out of place.
Since both songs sounded cool but I couldn't gauge their meaning or context I gave the flash a neutral score.
5/10

Premise: This is by far one of the most confusing "tribute" submissions I have ever seen in my life. The viewer is first told that this is a tribute to America, followed by a few nice shots of NYC at night set to a nice tune that seems to speak of America's strength/presence of culture (so far so good), then suddenly a rock band (which indeed sounds like something I'd hear during a concert) suddenly cuts in to compliment a large variety of images of the tragedy and the after-effects (people crying, immense smoke clouds etc.) and then a sudden ending punctuated by a message of how Russia is behind us in our loss.
Maybe if I was Russian (and understood those lyrics) maybe this would have a little more meaning. As it stands it came off unpolished, ill conceived and almost insulting (especially in the context of culture clashes).

Next time the author should consider the sensibilities of his/her audience more carefully and recognize that the culture gap MUST be spanned in order for something like this to work (a good example in this case would have been subtitles for the songs).

And furthermore the next time the author feels compelled to make a slideshow, he/she should post it on some other site.

1.5/10

Take care all

no compassion here, move along, people :(

Thinking this won't happen to you? Feeling confident, powerful and unstoppable? Carrying your flag high?
Well, my "friend", the day will come, and you will find out what color is your "soul" for making this "tribute" of mockery over great human tragedy and loss.
The song gets 10, obviously. The rest is trash and gets 0. Rot in hell.
