I never played Contra, but this is a good way to discover it for others like me.
Plus, very nicely done. Quite hard anyway.

FrikkenA is right about the real thing being best, but I'm glad this is here none the less. It would have been even better if you had all the levels.
Pretty good
But you can't beat the real thing. There is some lag issues, even with the effects turned to low.
Quite Unimpressive.
Graphics:
The graphics are very close... You did very well with them. Keeping the original bullet sprites would have been better, the new ones look out of place.
Sound:
Quite well done. The only problem I had with it was the poor quality on the music.
Gameplay:
Ok, The gameplay - sadly, was quite unimpressive. Firstly, there are only 3 stages. Maybe you plan on changing this, but it seems very incomplete without them. Also, you can choose to leave certain stages out. This makes the game far too easy.
The physics are quite messed up, as you can stop in the middle of jumps, which makes it hard to shoot down while jumping. The collisions are off in the Alien Lair, and I found i was dying even though the enemies weren't quite touching me.
Good graphics, Good sound, Bad gameplay. I appreciate you attempting to honour Contra's 20th birthday, but next time... Please put some more effort in.
