Reviews for "BattleMage"

Good

The music got a little annoying after a while, the game was good though. I'm sad, because I reconise megaman X's sprite poses and can see you copied him, but its still good.

:~> LOOKS Nice...

...but I can't really tell, since I was unable to play it properly.

Look, you've got something that feels like a very nice game, but it's kinda slow for its kind. Games like this used to play in old Nintendo, small consoles with a processor so much slower than a 486 66MHz. I don't mean your game is cheap or boring, I'm saying that this concept of platform gaming should not require so much from my PC! (which is a 1.3GHz and not that slow)

Well, maybe I wouldn't be complaining about that if you hadn't hidden the Flash menu. I do you guys do that? Why don't you allow us to toogle the quality?

I'd like to review your game but first I gotta be able to play it!

You've got a nice game here.

I'm not sure whether you are going to refine it or make a new one, but i got a change 4 u: whenever you are going left, press the right button(while holding the left one in too) and you do a moon walk to the right. its annoyingly cool.

What the heck!

Graphics were nice, sounds were superb and music as well, style was a little Castlevania/NES Zelda/Megaman-ish but I'm a fan of each. Was great till my swords got bugged and couldn't use anything afterwards, then I beat those fire ninjas after getting the last two spells and the chamber was still locked. Had to retry that part 13 times because a ninja (after I killed one) would respawn which kept the chamber sealed. Then, those spiked ball obstacles were just the worst part of the game, and made all that effort of overcoming the ninja bug a waste really.

My slow computer couldn't get out of the area after getting speed and healing spells. It just chugged and the speed effect wouldn't last enough to dash across ledges. The game has some serious problems, but I did like it though.

Arclite83 responds:

I've gotten a lot of complaints about that particular area. It's because there are two bosses in one area, it can get confused and lock up that way. The swords is a really wierd thing, because the code is written so that CANT happen.

Thanks for the review.

Decent Game with a Few Flaws

Actually, this is a pretty good game. The controls are responsive and fairly solid. The environments and characters, while somewhat bland, aren't terrible. Animation is pretty smooth. The sound effects are decent, and they don't become annoying. The music, while nothing spectacular, doesn't irritate and just kind of bleeds into the background.

My main gripes are with the the cut scenes, the voice acting, and the inability for the player character to crouch.

Cut scenes may as well have been stick figure drawings, and were presented in such a way that it wasn't quite clear exactly what I was looking at.

Voice acting is just simply god-awful. It all feels very forced.

During the first boss battle, especially, I would have liked the option to crouch. Several times during that battle, I could have easily avoided unecessary damage if I could have executed a well-timed duck.

All in all, though, this is a decent game that is at least worth a look.

Arclite83 responds:

Ducking is right at the top of my list for improvements for BM2.

My original idea for cuscenes was fully animated shorts, but that quickly got scrapped. I'm not that good of an artist on the PC.
