Reviews for "Forming Anesthetic"

Pretty good

I like your basic melody line, and the beat in total. At 1:10, do you hear that little "squeek"? In my opinion it's a little annoying (lol). If those could be replaced with some sort of Phase effect, or some other kind of sample to make the song become a "suspence builder," then it would be even better than what it is now.
Keep it up!

thanks dude! lol, yeah i thought that i would leave that in as a reminder of how it's electronic, allbeit that theres an acoustic percussion break ;) haha, i'll keep that in mind, it always was a bit iffy at that part. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE CRITICISM!! i love it. i'm going to make such a great second draft! lol

easy-going

I really like this track, it's easy to leave it on loop and work on something. looking forward to more!

lidlurch responds:

thanks for the review! no constructive criticism?

Ok... here's what i think.

From the text i understand that you did all the input yourself. well.. don't. :P
I'm a drummer myself and i find it kinda cringe worthy to hear off beat percussion. So work on your rhythm or use loops.

Also i think your percussion needs more of a "thump".
To get that, get yourself familiar with equalizers and compressors.
Seriously, these two things let you take control of the sound.

All in all its decent.
I like how the instruments work with their melodies.
The percussive diversity is solid.
I also like the interlude at 1:02.

It's a 6/10 because it doesn't come off the ground. It never really moved me.
Also because of the rhythm issues and the mastering of the whole song.

Just keep making music and do what feels right.
Don't take any criticisms too seriously... especially mine. :P

lidlurch responds:

thanks for the review!! yeah, well, there aren't any good beats that i can find off of garage band :P so i make my own. you really think they were offbeat? it didn't seem like it to me...maybe i'll just use a different one. i'm a drummer too, so i'll deffinetly do that. it's not really the same on a keyboard though :P

yeah, people have told me that too, and i'll deffinetly add that into this song. lol that interlude took me like 3 hours to get right xD

doesn't come off the ground eh? well, when i tried that climax near the middle-end of the song, i couldn't find much to put in there, and i see your point. i just wish i could do more with garageband to get all of those feelings out

well, thanks anyways, and i'll see what i can do.

One of your better songs.

Pros:

-Awesome melodies.
-Great use of different instruments
-Pretty sick ideas! The name fits the song well.

Cons:

-The percussion beat is not consistent. Try to keep the rhythm of the beat's metronome (high hat, in our case) consistent. Practice tapping to a metronome, and don't slow the song down and play it cus that effectively worsens the consistency.
-The panning of the percussion beat is also terrible. Once again, consistency. Cus you had the beat in the middle the first third of the song, then it switched to the right speaker, then left. They might be different percussion beats in themselves but having them switch back and forth bugs a lot of listeners.

lidlurch responds:

hm..yeah, i keep on being told that the beats aren't on beat the entire time. aight, i'll try not to do that anymore mike, i suppose that takes away from the skill it takes to make it eh? i find it harder to play at a slower tempo anyways :P hm...well, i just felt like i didn't want the song to get too crowded you know? idk, i'll see what i can do in the next version of this song

Hm!

Sounds like you used a VST I'm fond of called StringZ2 with the CinemaMood preset? I like it!

lidlurch responds:

lol, i just used garage band
