First impressions...
Ha! Just watched the first episode and I have to say, this is great! My rating might seem fairly generous, but I am comparing this what normally passes for Flash animation. The style is awesome and the wit is dry...kinda of reminiscent of Veggie Tales humour, I thought. I love the expressions and reactions of the host, it has an almost cynical slant to it.
Alot of people prefer active, in your face jokes and gags when it comes to Flash cartoons, but the understated humour in this is ingenious (and hard to do)- those who don't find it funny haven't got an opinion.
This is the best work I have seen on NewGrounds...granted, I haven't seen much of it yet (but most of it's tragic). DFL has very consistant animation and style, which is HUGE for Flash animation, as far as I am concerned. Most stuff I watch for all of two seconds; the terrible kindergarten drawings, pixelly graphic imports and gaudy gradients just drive me nuts.
Sounds effects and music are also very good, but it's the overall presentation which sells it. The cooking show idea? Killer! It's original, with all the tips and sarcastic comments on the side...it's a riot.
I only watched the first episode so far, but this is very good cartoon humour- it's not just flash animation. It could all be tightened up a little, of course, but that comes with devlopment. I'm sure the next episodes are even better.
