Good

So smooth, pretty challenging, solid game whoot! No lags in the graphics either, I was so down with playing it lots.

Solid, but has a few improvable problems

Great game! It does what it does well by being a fun little oldschool shooter genre game!

I personally liked it a lot and especially appreciate the effort. My vote point will be 4 since I can tell there's a lot of work that went into this, yet it's not a complete package as some other flashes in this site are (such as the #1 ranked flash right now: "There she is!!!") It's quite fun, the music is pretty relaxing (which I loved about shooter games. The music in these kinds of games weren't always frantic techno-beats. Sometimes soothing as well), and the game was pretty challenging, which is more to my taste with Gradius and Einhander games.

Anyway, there's a few criticisms which could help your newer version (or versions) of this game:

- Personally, I think it'd be a bit better for a player to have a few lives instead of going straight to the "game over/retry" screen. It'd help make the process of starting over a game much less redundant.

- The fonts and the like could be a little bit smaller. Not a real complaint, but a stylistic one.

- I personally thought the enemies and the ship I controlled were too large. I think that made things a bit too cramped and crashing into enemy ships was a bit frustrating, since that doesn't happen too much with other Shooter games. It's usually the enemy fire that kills people, and I think it'd be better if the ship sizes were 3/4 or 1/2 the size they are in this version, and have a bit more number of enemies, or have them come in patterned wave. (I know that's a tough request, but there's a room for improvement)

- Again stylistically, I think the ships looked a bit bland. I think the ships should look more interesting in one way or the other. It's an artistic issue though, and I'm sure you can improve naturally as all artists do.

Not real complaints as you can see, but just ideas for the future. Thanks for the game! I appreciate it.

Heh, thanks for the detailed review.
I know, i'm not much of an artist..
I'll keep what you said in mind if i make a sequel to this. =)

My speakers!

First of all, I think this is a really great game, I've already recommended it to 3 other people, and they love it as well, great job over all. Reminds me a lot of R-Type, and Ikaruga, both of which I have ALWAYS been a tremendous fan of. A few things that I have noticed or suggest, though:

- The music on/off selector. You put in a command to start the music at (a) the start of every level; (b) the beginning of a boss encounter. I don't know a HELL of a lot about action script, but could I make a suggestion as far as making it check if the music switch is on or off before re-starting the music. Having to turn the music on and off while I'm trying to listen to my Rammstien is somewhat annoying and hard on the ears ;p Not bad on the music selection in it's own right, though.

- Make bullets destroyable objects. This has been a feature in both R-Type and Ikaruga, and I think it's awesome. Instead of dodging around bullets like crazy (expecially in the later levels), make them destroyable so that you don't have to dodge as much ;p To balance things somewhat, also try making pick-ups destroyable as well *evil-laugh*.

- Missle upgrades. Why not make seperate pods so that instead of locking onto one enemy with a salvo, make it so that it will lock onto many enemies and fire one missle. Makes much more room for upgrades, too. Maybe make a button they have to hold down to target many enemies then release to fire one to each or just leave it alone to fire to one enemy in a salvo. I think this would add some depth to one of the better weapons in the game ;p

- HARDER!!! >D

Awesome game, man, love your other stuff, too. Best games on NG. Keep it up =)

DBarbarian responds:

Thanks and all, but a 3...
If you like it so much, why the hell give it a 3. At least a 6 or something. I mean, just because the I forgot about the boss music coming doesnt downgrade it to a 3...
Well, if thats how you fell...

wow....... that was fun

that was really fun, but really really really really hard too. reminds me of R-Type except a hell of a lot harder

it was good

but too difficult, and the graphics were sort of plain...Definetly far too difficult when u start out...it shouldn't take that many shots to kill a basic enemy. I do like side shooters though, and this was pretty fun.
