Reviews for "FFIX - You're not alone! [XD]"

Shut up lance! lol

I loved it, not really anything wrong with it in my ears - btw i can give you sheet music for this and other FFIX pieces.

(ps FFVII is the best Soundtrack lol)

Sephirot24 responds:

Heh. Thx dude! I'm glad you liked it ^^

I think I've found a good page with sheet music and other FF stuff already but I'll PM you if I can't find anything :P

PS: FF fans are never gonna agree on which FF is the best XD (but we can agree that FF is the best RPG series :)

--SephXD--

You gave it a go. =)

I think you tried pretty hard with it. I didn't feel it went that well, personally, but 1:06-1:20 was fantastic, that turned out well, it worked. Keep at it and you'll improve. =)

Sephirot24 responds:

I don't think this is my best song, but IMO it turned out pretty cool ^^
Thanks dude! If you have time, check out my other stuff, maybe you'll find something nice =D

Blah

Boring. I was gonna call a midi rip, but you said you learned by ear and it looks like theres a few subtle additions.

Of course it won't have the same magic as the original, and that's why I believe if you stick to your own work.

Maybe you'll find this quote from my blgog useful:

"Secondly, if you're making a remix, especially if it's a midi rip, using fruity loops presets, or remixed into the same genre, there is no way you're getting more than a 5 from me. Especially if what you're doing is just aimlessly changing up the melody or chord progression, or throwing in drums. No, that is not a remix. And there's too much of that reeling in an excessive amount of credit here.

By remixing it, you should look into changing styles. Not remix a "VG Song" into a "VG song". Keep the themes and/or melodies the same and find out what elements are commonly found in the genre you want to remix it too, and build your support structure from there. Example: Say I want to do a Mario metalized theme. I would use these instruments (which is obvious to some): Distorted rhythm guitars, distorted lead with FX, bass, acoustic drums, maybe some vocals of your own over the top that discusses the levels in Mario, and whatever additions you think would sound nice. I would keep the lead melody the same, and use the lead guitar to play this theme- maybe restructure the rhythm stso it fits metal more (include more legato), add pinch harmonics to emphasize important notes, and maybe use the gaps (rests) between to fill in notes that you can sweep or tremolo pick. Next, take the pedal tone of the track, transcribe that to the bass and rhythm guitar, and make a chugging riff or power chord riff out of it. Throw out the original drums, and thrown in a blastbeat or the like. This is an example of how to do a proper remix, IMO.

Another option is re-arranging the theme to fit for certain moods, if you want to make a sad theme happy, rearrange the chord progression and melody. You want to make a desert theme, re-arrange the melodies so they fit the harmonic minor scale, meaning you change the minor 7th intervals into major 7ths. However, this does not take a whole lot of effort, but still more viable than the majority of remixes posted here."

So besides not rendering much different from the original track, your instrument quality is atrocious. Most of it is the GM standard instruments. You can find better quality free soundfonts out there - if you want to know the specific names, let me know.

Mixing could be better. You did some panning, but you might want to put in some thought to EQIng. raise the bass levels, experiment with different levels of reverb, and definetly bring out the drums more. This will make your track sound more full and alive.

PS FF8 soundtrack is better than FF9 :P

Sephirot24 responds:

Man... that's your opinion, and I'll respect it even if you are wrong =P

I experimented with equalizing, reverb and other effects a lot. If I had just put the instruments as they were It would have been really different.

Also, I know little about music so I didn't understand half your post BUT it's just YOUR opinion on how we SHOULD do our tracks. You can do it that way if you want, but do not expect others to do it that way only 'cause u said so.

Anyone is free to do whatever they want and if you don't like it don't come in and say - " haha. sorry man: 3 ! now THIS is how you do it " because that's just being an ass.

PS: no, it's pretty good to but it's not.

Have a nice day :)
