There's actually a comic franchise that published a death note parody along those lines, and mimicked the full series plot as best it could using a 'laugh note'.
It was abridged into a two-parter but it still taught me pretty much everything I actually know about death note. I don't know if it was ever translated into english, but if you want to see it, google "Caderno do riso Turma da Mônica Jovem"
