Reviews for "Beyond the Coast"

Nice piece, though the strings feel a bit sporadic

I like the overall calm feeling of the piece, but the strings sort of ruin it a bit for me. I think the attack on them is too high at time and a number of the notes sound like they are played with sforzando - and end up sort of sounding a bit awkward as a result. As for the piece itself, I think a little bit more variety in the harp part would've been welcome - even if it's just letting rest a couple of measures here and there. Overall, it's a nice piece though, and does fit the theme too for the most part. Good job.

hey thanks for the criticism man! i see what you mean with the strings- i dont know about lowering their attack time during parts, i like how they tend to smooth in. this was my second track made when I got the program (East West Symphony), so I wasn't too familiar with the controls. (to be honest, i didnt know about manipulation at the time much at all), but there definetly could be more variation in techniques and keyswitching (if I'm using the right term here) through out. as for the harp- i went back today and modified the chord structure throughout, so it was even more repetitive before. maybe more drastic changes are needed.

well, thanks for the good score, and helpful review! I'll take your points when I make my next piece!

Very good!

Style reminds me a bit of Phillipe Vachey. Awesome submission. Would love to know what programs you used, and what soundfonts/instrument packages. The realistic sounding instruments just add to the overall feel.

never heard of him, I will have to check him out later! I use East West Symphonic Orchestra Gold, and there's also a sytrus pad used lightly in here during the interlude. It's quite a bit pricey, but if your looking for an excellent sounding orchestral soundfont, you might want to check out squidfont, as explained and linked to on my lastest blog.

Thanks a lot for the kind review and 10 dude! I appreciate it.
