Reviews for "Last Days of Summer =WB"

Not bad...

The piano is preety cool, nice for the intro but is plain, spice it up a bit!
The cheering crowd i dont like sorry and the whirring/buzzing noise sorta wrecks my head a bit. The high pitched..flute? sounds are nice and have nice effect.

The moving of the audio from left to right is a bit mind blowing...and can confuse you. Although its not all bad :-)
It has the ability to be a very good song if you fix some of the minor problems and lessen bass. Too much bass.

Thanks, I'll work on it.

This song has a lot of potential. I like the intro with the cheering audience and the piano. The piano plays a very nice melody.
Some other effects in the intro sound very nice, too (those high pitched tunes there).

The kick off at 0:51 sounds good, but the deep bass sound that is going from the left to the right to the left kinda runis the song (as Gronmon already wrote ;) ).
It outpowers the other melodies and doesn't really fit there. Also it's kind of annoying that it keeps panning from left to right.
If you took it out and replace it with something less powerful it would sound much better.

I'll probably end up toning down the panning and turning the volume down, that should make things better.
Thanks for the review.

Gronmon pretty much hit the nail on the head ;)

i didnt think this was that bad, but i dont have much more to say. well i just listen to this threw a couple times and see how it turns out :P

some interesting ideas both mixing wise and melody wise. Composition from you is solid as always.

I like the synths and that warm flanger effect on them. The light panning sparkly synths sounds really good, and the keys are nice and bright and cheery- perfect for the mood of the track. the main bass is a bit too overpowering, needs to lose less stereo panning on the flanger effect (it gets pretty distracting when not used subtley), or you might want to find a different texture. i really like the high pitched melody, it does kinda break the barrier and hurt my ears, you might want to put a high pass filter on it (not sure if that would solve the problem). some good interlude melodies, nice flow, and the beat is nice and catchy- doesnt sound too generic. I like how you pan the bass in the next section (its not so distracting when its not straight up in the front). i dig the ascending chords at 3:20ish. after around the 4:00 minute mark the ideas get kinda bland, i thought you could have introduced a new theme or just jumped straight to the ending. just a qualm on my part. the ending doesnt sound too abrupt, although i would have left the remainder and just the final energy give out for just a couple more bars.

so the bass does kinda kill it, but its only during certain parts. as far as mixing besides the bass, you've taken a great leap from your last tracks I've reviewed IMO- especially since techno/electronica styles generally take more time to get the levels and FX right. speaking from personal experience, atleast. as for the drums- i would make the kick more audible as its a major source of energy to the track, and possibly slap some reverb on the clap :D had to put something about reverb in hear, you know.

good work Writersblock!

WritersBlock responds:

Thanks, man. Very helpful review, I'll probably try and polish it up and have an update on this soon.
Cheers.

i like it. 9/10 for being repetitive.

WritersBlock responds:

repetitiveness goes a long way...

Not bad.

First thing I noticed was the pad, and I have to say, I dislike it. But eh, minor details, moving on. The piano, sir, lacks effects. I would suggest adding reverb and a tad bit of delay because it sounds too....Fruity Loopy and plain. The high-frequency sounds sound annoying and should be removed IMO.

The kickoff at 0:51 is good, but the beat that follows it totally ruins it due to its weakness, not to mention the ugly (may I say hideous, actually) bass that keeps panning left and right at a volume so high that it manages to drown the other lower frequencies. The melodies themselves are not bad, they're quite upbeat, but again, they're also drowned by the annoying bass and they're too repetitive. The sample choices for the beat aren't that bad really.

After listening to the whole song, I must conclude that the bass totally ruins the song. The song has potential if the tunes and drums are brought out more with some mastering, but it lacks some serious polishing. The pad choices aren't any good to me either, I would suggest better ones. As it is though, the main problem lies on the bass, as I mentioned before. Get rid of that and fix the rest, it could make a good track.

6/10 critical review; 4/5 vote for effort.

WritersBlock responds:

Thanks for the critical review. I didn't realise all those flaws. I'll propbaby fix it up a bit more, keeping your comments in mind. I think I did have some reverb on the piano, but I'll go over it again, and polish it up some more.

Thanks for the honest review.
