---Game Summary---

Blodo is a game in which your goal is to reach the top of a tower, for what reason you may ask? Nobody knows! Make sure not to fall however, or you will be forced to restart from wherever you land.

---Testing Info/updates---

-Currently this game is in it's testing phase, anything can and will most likely change

-Please give me feedback on the collision and such.

-Please share what you would like to see in the game!

-Version 2: made debug mode able to be toggled via the X button

-Version 3: added animation frame for double jumping, added dust sprite for double jump (kinda buggy but it works :D), added a test tower area to replace ugly bricks and gmod style no texture blocks areas, and finally I tweaked the gravity a bit so please let me know how that goes for ya

-Version 3.5: just polished some stuff from version 3; added dust (same from version 3) to sliding, and changed tower interior color. Couldn't find a solution to clipping into solid tiles, but I did make grass tile semi-solid so you can jump out until I do!

---Controls---

-Left and right arrow keys to walk

-Z or the A button on a gamepad to jump and/or double jump

-X or the B button on a gamepad to toggle debug mode

---More Info---

-This game is made using PICO-8, more info on that here!

-I plan on adding collectable coins that can be used on later floors to buy power ups, to make the climb back up easier if you fall. Double jump (which is in this test build) will be one of those powerups.

Handles very nice, Fast and good jump height, Doesn't feel limited. The only bug i found was jumping from the high platform onto the bricks i got stuck in them, But there's a reset option so no problem. It's a nice colourful style too, I look forward to seeing what you do with this

Edit: I since tried to recreate the glitch jumping on the bricks but couldn't, But got stuck in the normal ground a few times, I think it's something to do with jumping from the very highest platform while also moving left or right, Not just dropping straight down. Maybe the increased falling momentum

TroubledKarma56 responds:

Thanks for trying it out! Yeah, that bug doesn't seem to go away, I might end up changing the collision system in the future. Thanks again for trying it, hope you have a good day!

Good, but would be good to increase the character's deacceleration

TroubledKarma56 responds:

Thanks for the feedback :D

The physics feel great so far! There is a bug with the collision test UI where it will only update from yes or no if the character moves in that direction, so for example touching a wall to your right will set it to yes, but moving to the left away from it will keep it at yes until you move right again. Probably only a bug with the UI though, collision doesn't seem to be affected by it! Can't wait to see your progress with this game!! :)

TroubledKarma56 responds:

Thanks for trying my test build, and for the kind words! I am aware of that bug, and yes, it is just an ui bug. I may fix the bug if I have time, but since it doesn't really effect gameplay, I may not (I will be removing the ui in a later version anyways). Again, thanks for trying it and reporting a bug, hope you have a great day!!! :D

Bug: fell under the surface and got stuck. Pixel style FTW.

EDIT: Yes, big jump from the highest platform beforehand.

TroubledKarma56 responds:

Did it happen when you fall from a great height by chance? The reason I ask is that is a bug I discovered myself, and I am currently trying to fix it. If that isn't how it happened, please dm how it occurred. Thanks a lot for trying it out!

Don't post your barely started prototype online cuz you're just asking to get bad reviews.

Anyways I like the graphics, it's good for a Pico game so there's that. I really got nothing else to say about the game.

If you want my opinion on what this game should need, it could use a timed mechanic where you'd need to get to the next level before being caught by spikes or lava. I've seen some games use this, but there was no game centered around that game mechanic.
That wouldn't work if your game is trying to be Jump King like the description implies, but if the character "falls" by dying to an enemy or a trap then it's def a good idea to consider.

TroubledKarma56 responds:

Thanks for the ideas and such! Yeah I know I will probably get bad reviews, but getting good reviews wasn't really what I did this for. I wanted negative reviews since they tend to be more brutally honest, that way I can use it to make the game better.

Ps. I might scrap the whole "falling down the tower and restarting from where you land" part, depends on if it is liked or not (by me or people testing it) when I add it.
