Welcome to Pouchie's game! He's excited to play the game and have fun. This game demo features one full level with coins to collect, enemies to squash, and a building to reach in order to end the game. All game assets are custom made as a call-back to classic platformer games, while also keeping a black and white aesthetic, which matches Pouchie's theme (pronounced P-oo-ch-ee), as he was originally inspired by the old Black and White cartoons, popularized by Fleischer Studios and that other one.

What's new for Alpha 0.4:


  • WORLD 1 COMPLETE! It took some time, but I have been able to design all the levels for World 1. I might change some levels in the future, either to give new features, or to tweak the design, but for now, I feel confident to close the book on World 1 and put all my energy on World 2.


  • MOB UPDATE! Bobos have been given a new sprite! Fits better with the rest of the mobs.


  • NEW GAMEMODES! In the Options Menu, there are two new gamemodes for the try-hards. No-Hit and One-Life. No-hit sets you to only one health point, with no way to recover health. One-Life sets your max lives to 1, and removes all Coins and Lucky Fish from levels.


  • BUTTONS AND BLOCKS! In Level 8, there are now buttons you can press to reveal blocks you can walk on. Careful though! There's a timer!


  • TILE UPDATES! I was able to create new procedural tilemaps, because of this, the traditional grass texture has been updated to better match the procedural tilemaps.


  • BOSS LEVEL! Level 8 has been converted to an interior level that you must traverse in order to reach the boss. But don't worry! If you die during Boomer's fight, his fight is isolated, so you can fight him solo after you've cleared Level 8.


  • MUSIC! New music has been added for Level 8


Bugfixes:


  • Fixed an issue with moving platforms where the player would fall through them. It was specifically an issue in the HTML5 version, so I had to test it on Itchio first.


  • Fixed a moving platform that was out of sync with the rest.


Known issues:


  • Boss becomes invincible after Pouchie takes damage... This wasn't a known bug for a while as nobody ever mentioned it in their reviews.


  • There was feedback in the previous builds that gameplay was "too floaty" and "too robotic." I don't know if any of my changes have resolved this issue, but we'll see.
