[EPILEPSY WARNING] What is it Like to See Music? - A Synesthesia Simulation

Share Collapse

THIS IS NOT A PREMADE VISUALIZER! This was originally made in VR and took about 6 months to create. I animated each sound individually. This is an example of what music looks like to me - I see this while I listen. Also, it can be watched in VR here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w87_Q0A7SNM

If you're new to the subject, synesthesia is a psychological phenomenon that happens when stimulation in one sense causes stimulation in another. There are many forms; the second most common is the ability to see colors from music (aka chromesthesia). This video is a depiction of that phenomenon.

Be sure to follow me if you're interested in seeing more! As I continue to upgrade my PC, these videos will come out faster and be more accurate and fun to watch.

Nice effects

So there are some nice effects and elements with this one that music really pushes the envelope too, some really amazing effects you could make more of these like a series of these styles and such.

none just make more

Syamori responds:

Thanks! I will most certainly be making more!

This is very cool. I imagine the epilepsy warning came after posting, based on some of the reviews. I think this is a nice set of effects and it helps that it's so pretty. Did you alter any of the ways the colors appeared, or are they always moving around to the rhythm?

Edit: Can't really reply to these, but maybe you'll see it. I meant if the animations are accurate to how they move when you see them. They're very rhythmic so I thought maybe you decided to add some movement in, but maybe it's exactly how you see it. I guess I thought it would be more like drops of paint in your vision than moving colors and shapes

Syamori responds:

Thanks! The colors actually change based on the emotion of the instrument, with slight changes due to pitch. I'm a bit confused about the use of "alter" in your question though - I made all of this from scratch...

seizure warning.
