[SFM]SleepyCast 360 Animated: "Future Lingo" - S2:E10

[Select HTML5 Under Format for 360 Video, Does Not Work on Mobile]

Possibly the FIRST 360 video on the website; an animation I created back in 2016 and posted on YouTube cause they had a 360 video player. I set out to make one in Unity a while back for use on Newgrounds, but there were dozens of issues. I only decided to return to it after we solved streaming video from ungrounded.net in the Tankmas ADVENTure 2020 Movie Theater.

Click and Drag with the MOUSE

Move Around with WASD or the ARROW KEYS

Play/Pause the Video with SPACE

There isn't much practical use for this, but it DID prove to be a challenge and this was the best solution I could come up with without changing the back-end of the site to support spherical video. Maybe one day we'll support that kind of niche content officially on Newgrounds.

Not sure it really suits this content, but it's an interesting experiment. Not sure it really suits any kind of content beyond car shopping or planning an Air bnb...

Nice! Doesn't seem to Work on Firefox so I watched on YT...

BrandyBuizel responds:

I'll have to look into Firefox, it seems to be an issue for a lot of people

Well I managed to get the 360 thing working on my phone. Simply go into the browser settings and turn on the option for the desktop version. Though draggin the camera on the touchscreen felt a little oversensitive.

But the with this type of animation (it pretty much just being conversation) the 360 gimmick felt kinda pointless. And on a screen as small as a phone, the whole thing looked way too zoomed out, so it was kind of hard to see who is talking and just hard to see facial expressions. Regardless of screensize, I think just having it more zoomed in, or just having all the characters more close around the fire would've worked much better. Kinda like those little bits from that 70s Show, where the characters are all in a circle, and the camera just rotates having em all close up (like portrait distance).
So I think this coulda worked out well with a little closer composition. Or just an animation that has stuff going on all over the place, or with things that move in a way that it guides the viewers so they instinctively know where to look.

BrandyBuizel responds:

Yea the animation is quite an old one from 2016 where I didn't know much of what I was doing, but some of the reasons you listed for the phone being a pretty meh experience is exactly why I didn't spend too much time on touch controls or mobile friendly features. It functions and feels way better on desktop to say the least so I disabled its functionality on mobile on purpose :)

Since I'm on mobile so I will give a 2.5 as a neutral score. I bet it is quite cool though! I have seen similar stuff on YouTube and is weird but cool.

BrandyBuizel responds:

on mobile you see the unwrapped source video, but i highly recommend checking it out on desktop when you get a chance!
