The goal of the game is to eat all the strings in each level. But watch out for enemies! A single touch and you're dead! Whenever you go up or down on a string, all enemies will freeze - so use this to your advantage. With a bit of practice, you'll fly around all the baddies in a breeze in all directions.

Will you reach the end and beat the final boss?

Features

  • Stupid simple classic arcade mechanics
  • 12 enemy types with their own behavior that become increasingly complex as you face them together
  • 25 levels. No randomization whatsoever. Huuuh?!
  • 7 incredible movie-like cutscenes (I might be overdoing it here)

Controls

Touch-screen :

Left-side of the screen : move your character / cursor (in menus)

Right-side of the screen : eat the string below you / action (in menus)

Top of the screen : open pause menu

Keyboard:

  • Arrow keys : move your character
  • X, Y or Z : eat the string below you
  • P, Esc, Enter: Pause menu

Proplayer's tip : Did you know? You can actually kill enemies! For this you'll have to partially eat 3 segments of a string, the middle one being almost finished (1 munch left) and the two surrounding others eaten one time (2 munches left). And get that, you get 100 points for that. WOW!

Proplayer's tip II : Some enemies can 't be killed... or can they? Legend is told that if you figure this out, you could potentially get 500 points each time!

Proplayer's tip III : Make use of the Invincibility Shafts™ - the extreme right or left sides of the levels. Some enemies can't touch you when you're there. Use this at your own risk... and advantage ;)

Author's note

This is a project I've been meaning to finish for a loooong time. The first design doc I did for it dates back to October 15th 2010! This is the third time I restarted coding it from scratch. The previous version was made in Flash in 2014 and was sadly abandoned halfway through because of my studies. So I'm quite proud of having finally completed it :D Have fun!

A fun game

I love the arcade elements of this game so sound F/X are really good and you showcased some simple yet fun graphics, controls hard to understand at first but overall a nice game, its not perfect but its notbad either its pretty fun aswell anyways good game

~X~

I f@cking love it >:3

Accidentally hit quit on level 25. Not too pleased to see I cannot resume. . .
Edit: Thanks for responding! You've made a difficult but fun game, so I'd absolutely try the level again if given the option.

LeSam responds:

Oh no! There's a save function that let's you come back to the game if you close the window, but if you actually use the Quit option it erases your save (so you can start again next time).

I can send you a pm with a cheat to go back to level 25 if you want! Sorry for the frustration :(

You rocked!

Pretty cool game that I think has a lot of heart in it! I love the arcade aesthetic that reminds me of games like Burger Time and Pacman, especially the goofy cutscenes you get as a reward for every few levels. Feel like the graphics, music and design are top-notch, and I loved my time with the game once I grasped it and started setting up combos and such. Only problem is it took a long time for me to grasp the game, and I doubt a lot of people will have the patience for this: heck, I almost dropped it myself plenty of times! The first few levels are really hard where the enemies just home into you and destroy you: felt like the later levels were easier actually since the enemies had less relentless patterns. Munching can be frustrating at times: sometimes I'd be trying to do the final bite on a string only for the game to think I'm biting the pixel next to it, leading to death. The combo system is neat, but really unintuitive, explained oddly, difficult to reproduce because of the above munching placement issues, and introduced too late and then the game doesn't explain it further. This is one of those games that toes the line between being 'satisfying hardcode retro difficulty' and 'frustrating and unintuitive': I came out alright, but could definitely use some help to make it shine for everyone else like it deserves for all the work you put into it!

LeSam responds:

Hey there! Random comment after ten months but I just got around to fix (I think) this problem you had in your video :

> Munching can be frustrating at times: sometimes I'd be trying to do the final bite on a string only for the game to think I'm biting the pixel next to it, leading to death.

Previously what it did is that it destroyed according to the biggest segment around the bite. So if you were eating a string on a part that was on its last life, but you were also just a little above another one with full health, it first destroyed the one with full health. Now it should only do that if you're really on that full health segment (which should be a bit more intuitive, so hopefully less frustrating)

Just woke up this morning thinking about this and was like "Why did I never fix this?" :D Anyway, happy new year ;)
