"A Grim Birthday" follows the story of Bobbet, a young automaton celebrating her 8th birthday alone, as usual. When, out of the blue, she receives a parcel, which suddenly appears in the centre of her room...

Can you help her unpack this late birthday present, and uncover the mysteries that await within?

"WASD/Arrow keys" -> Move around

"E" -> Interact with objects within the scene

"Left mouse button" -> click on objects within the close up scenes to interact with them

"Tab" -> Brings up/ closes the inventory menu

"Q" -> Pause/unpause the game, and brings up the pause menu


Hey all!

Just wanted to let you all know that, while this game is intended to be part of university work, I hope to further develop the concept behind this game in the future, especially in regards to making it a full series. I want to take the basic concept and create something pretty big, so thankfully this little assignment task has taught me quite a bit about designing a level, even in a small space.

However, for the time being, this is just a sort-of prototype for a bigger series, while keeping my boundaries of "A singular room" game in place for uni work. Still, I have had plenty of fun making this, and I hope you like it too :D

Regardless, thank you so much for looking at my work, and I hope to make bigger and better things in the future! ^^

P.S: I sincerely apologise about the audio, as I have no real audio-editing skills and made the best with what I knew. It may be either too low or too loud, so please make sure to turn your devices audio up or down respectively. Thank you, and once again I'm sorry!

I absolutely ADORE the lore, the challenges, the little extra dialogue; IT'S BEAUTIFUL. Everything ties together, even if you can't tell at first. It's amazing how you also get a bit of character development on the parents, even though you don't actually interact with them.

But even though I praise your work here, I also can't quite figure out the code in the parcel. I got the knife, I opened it, I had the grey key, the power was on, and I read the father's note in the floorboards.
Yet I can't seem to make out the code. Maybe to a system that tells you which numbers are right and in the right places, or maybe just make the code a tad bit easier..

Thank you so much Mothball!!! I had a lot of fun making this little thing, although I honestly cant wait to get back on it and work on the full thing :3

As for the code thingy-ma-doodar, for some reason, it has a weird look to it if you fail it once (One number always stays for some reason, so ya gotta input a number to get reid of it. Kinda like a ghost number. no clue why it does it though). That could be one reason, or you may just have missed out on one of the clues. If you get super stuck though, just send me a DM :D

((I don't typically like these kinds of games, because they're difficult for me to figure out. But this one was fairly simple without being too easy. Can't wait for the full game!

As for the full thing, I'm currently knee-deep in uni work, but I should be diving right back into the game in a month or two to start developing it further, without side distractions.

So fingers crossed, I can make something you can enjoy a lot more than this tiddly little demo ;P

I can't wait for the full version! I absolutely adore this type of art style, plus the storyline is so far simple. yet captivating. I hope to see both a full release and other games by you soon!

I can't wait to get back to this project and start on the full game already! I need to give it a few weeks (due to uni work) but in the meantime I plan on working on further concepts and tiring the storyline together :3
