Pretty decent game. While I agree that the acceleration is unnecessary, I kinda enjoyed it. Gives these remakes a bit more personality. I stopped at the Zelda stage because, like the original, I was just wandering around not knowing what to do. I'll probably come back to it later...

BLACKMASKCEO responds:

Really appreciate you taking the time to play! It's not really a good game at all... I hurried the development and the game has a number of bugs. I used the project as a way to experiment with the HTML5 editor I was using. Check out my next project when I get a chance to upload!

Stopped playing at the Legend of Zelda level. I have a good few complaints, so I'll start with praises. The writing is pretty clever; the Up and Atom joke gave me a chuckle when I figured it out. Some of the levels have really well integrated gameplay. Specifically, I really liked the Twinbee and Donkey Kong levels. Now for the negatives. The acceleration mechanic that is in almost all the minigames is really, REALLY unnecessary. I didn't have to build up speed on an arcade system, I shouldn't have to here. My biggest complaint is the Legend of Zelda level. So far I have been on this level for 5 minutes (for comparison, the other minigames only took one minute.) and I cannot for the life of me find what I am supposed to do. This wouldn't be a problem if I was challenged by enemies during my confusion, but there's only one enemy, and he doesnt even try to fight back. Not to mention the "music" in this level. It's just a series of chords that seems to try to give a feeling of mystery. That doesn't make any sense to me; Legend of Zelda is supposed to be intense. Other than that level though, not a bad game.

BLACKMASKCEO responds:

Thank you for playing the game and writing a great review as well! I agree with all of the feedback you've provided. This project was a "practice game" meaning that I didn't really have a design doc planned for it. I kinda "winged" the development. Compounded by the fact that mid-way through development my PC crashed made things even more hectic. I originally had ambitious plans for the game, but I had to scale everything back once I started to run into logic issues and game-breaking bugs. I've learned a lot about design and deving from my mistakes made in Up n' Atom. I may revisit it one day and re-work the entire logic/design from the ground up, knowing what I know now. Again, thank you for playing and feel free to critique my new project once I have it uploaded! ^^
