Interesting..
What do those symbols mean?
This was a segment from my 2016 Film FINAL at UMASS Boston that was animated in Adobe After Effects CC 2016.
The Butterflies were created during Inktober, then scanned and created into animation puppets.
I used Ripple effects in Adobe After Effects CC 2016, and it was quite a challenge for anyone to help me get this to work back in 2016 at UMASS Boston.
I will be recutting, redoing, and reshooting this film in 2019 to fit my original vision.
The film was an experimental philosophical art film:
"Smattering Thoughts Also Flow":

The film includes elements of: Philosophy, Taoism, Chinese Characters using Etymology as an art form to TELL A STORY, or convey a concept via a demonstration performance, allegory, symbolism.
The Audio Design was also created by me, which includes real heartbeats, real, medical heart monitors, and submarine sonar, as well as real whales singing.
It's meant to evoke emotive experiences, and deep thought, or no thought and the experience as an indulgent one. It's eerie, haunting, and also beautiful, as well as oddly satisfying, or soothing.

Since this time, I've taken a more proactive and self motivated approach to animation software and filmmaking. Now, I can do what I want to do, because the only limit is myself, and I no longer have to depend on people whom are not dependable, and are unreliable. Honestly, I love the idea of togetherness, and a community, but not when it's holding me back, lacks integrity, responsibility, or is dishonest. I haven't had a problem helping out others, but when it's me it's not even fractionally returned most of the time, or this "help" is used not altruistically, but as a selfish point of leverage to force ME to be something or someone I'm not, be in somebody's clique, control me, or inflate themselves.

What do those symbols mean?
Hi,
Thanks for asking. ^_^ That's a good question. :)
Oh, it's Chinese. I left a link in the description to the original film I did in 2016, which had captions, and it makes more sense.
I realize not everyone is bilingual, so it is confusing for most people.
I'm also going to be re-doing this film in 2019, and improving the content. I've come a long way since then, and still going.
Here's some of descriptions of the artwork of the Chinese characters:

It's a kind of pun or word play in Chinese, because all of the Butterflies have the words that are called "ren" but each one has a totally different meaning.
In Chinese there are many arts and poetry styles that use the Chinese characters to have other meanings, based on how the words are written, or how they sound. It makes them more profound, and deep. But, also they use pictogram writing which is picture words that are symbols, but even the ideas themselves can be symbolic.
I'm not a master of these things, but it's of interest to me, even tho' I'm not that great at it. But, This was very meaningful to me to create.
