19 year old Avrill is like any other person who wants to start college. However a dark shadow has always followed her, causing her to become a partial insomniac. A cruel voice always at the back of her mind...Telling her all her faults, picking at every single flaw.

My first ever visual novel, it's still in beta mode so please tell me or any errors.

This will be added later

This is a very cute game and I love your art style. It's very pretty and clean. Though I will say one thing, when Avrill shouts, since her sleeve is to her mouth it makes it hard to tell she has her mouth open in a shout. I would have enjoyed seeing drawn backgrounds instead of pictures but pictures are alright too considering this is your first project. For your first project, I must say this is wonderful. It works very nicely despite some lag or delay in the text or pictures.

The story is well constructed as well, and the way you wrote the characters made it easy to connect with them, good job! That can be hard to do, even for some accomplished writers or game makers. The story is solid too, as it clearly details the life of Avrill and her struggles against her "shadow". I must say one thing though, it would be nice to have an explanation of why she has the shadow such as if it is another personality, something caused from sleep deprivation or something part of a mental disorder like schizophrenia.

I did enjoy the game but I do have some critics, when you have another character and a different one speaks I wouldn't recommend blurring the other out, it just feels odd. And when writing narration, I would recommend removing the name from a top of it since most people understand that this is from Avrill's viewpoint. Plus adding her name makes it feel like she's saying it aloud and makes things a bit confusing.

Also, I would recommend putting in a restart or reset button or a menu button so after we finish a run we can play another one without having to reload the page.
Thank you for reading this and thank you for making this lovely game!

Thank you so much for playing~! I appreciate you taking the time to play and reviewing
"The Life Inside".

I do agree with you on the backgrounds, I would have actually preferred to draw them myself if I wasn't on a time crunch. This game was made for a contest that's happening this year, I only heard about it recently and I managed to make this in 10 days so that's why some parts may seemed a little rushed. Not to mention my first try ever, I just wanted to try my best and enter it.

In a year or two I would honestly love to take the time to redo the game with more art, more endings and more story and dialogue. Diving deeper in many things that was left unexplained in this one. I will certainly take your advice for my next one!

I'm definitely adding this to my favorites, because I very much want to play it through. However, much like the first review, my game keeps freezing... :(

I like the music, and the effects on the background are very nice. I hope to come back and play this all the way through!!

AuraLaCirca responds:

Thank you so much~!
I'm sorry to hear about the freezing trouble, I'm going to try my best to figure out the problem since I had the problem. (A few scenes do tend to be a tad slower like the last scene for the cellphone) May I suggest try it in a different browser? I'm not sure about mine but some people have a lot of lag on certain browsers. Where does it freeze?

I hope you will continue to support me and future projects like "The Life inside"

Alright, I almost cryed haha
That's the kind of stuff we all should suport and see at last one time. Sometimes we stand against obstacles in our lifes, some obstacles we can't see, we can't touch with the body, we can only see. That kind of obstacle it's the most dificulty of all.
The end of the game it's so amazing. Gives strenght to people that need it everyday.
The soundtrack it's very emersive, so soft and with a very good timing; when you "don't give up" you feel like you are doing the choise of your life.
Thank you to bring us that awesome work of yours.
Keep up with the good work!

Really? I'm so happy that my game almost brought someone to tears (in a good way), it makes me so ecstatic as a creator! It's very true that not all obstacles are physical. Some of the most brutal battles are inside, and that's what I wanted to show, how much something internal can effect you. You got my point exactly with how I want people to feel! Thank you so very much for supporting my game and me. I hope you will place your hopes in me for the future!

On the first decision I tried "Respond with something funny" and it froze. I tried again, same result...tried the other option and it soon froze up once again before I could get to another dialogue.

Really? I just play tested it. It seems that respond with something funny just takes awhile to go to the next scene. I will try my best and fix that. Thank you for trying to play it and the feedback.
