Biker Rage DEMO

Author Comments

This is the Biker Rage demo (due to the project taking so long).

An horizontal shooter where you only have three positions where you can be. There are obstacles, that will damage your bike, as well as an enemy bike gang you will fight.

How many points will you get at the end?
What will be your time?

Up = switch lane up.
Down = switch lane down.
Space = attack/shoot.

The game is touch friendly, to change lanes use the left side of the screen (the top half to go up and the bottom half to go down) and shoot with the right side of the screen.

The demo contains the first level, where you can find the first 3 enemy types and the gang boss.

The demo does not contain:

-The background story.
-Weird things that the full game will have.
-A help page explaining the interface.

-Reducing the debree to increase performance.
-Tightening the controls. (now the player can change lane faster)
-Better collision for the rocket explosion.
-Reduced the screen size to better fit the website.
-Better feedback when taking damage.
-Better spawn system for the boss (so no bikers spawn on his current lane)

As it is a demo, it's pretty good, HOWEVER, it was quite annoying when you died. There was no pop up to restart the game. Only after I beat the boss, did I receive the instruction to 'press backspace to restart'- I kept reloading my game because once you died, there was nothing on screen except the retro music and the dead player.

One more thing- its a simple concept but I reckon the response time to hit an enemy and to move up and down was slightly slow, not as responsive. For example, hit enemy, try to dodge an object, pressing up repeatedly, does not respond instinctively. Otherwise, good game. Looking forward to full game!

Good art. Music is ok. Gameplay is lacking - didn't get sense of excitement while playing and was a little bored to be honest. It was difficult to see enemy bullets (make them more visible).

Raeldor responds:

Good critique, I'll try to fix some of the issues on future updates. To be honest limiting myself to the 16-bit palette was making the enemy bullets very difficult to see and I tried my hardest to make them visible.

I love this retro game style. Your art is very good, and as this game is still in the Demo version, I hope to see something even better in the final version. It is a bit difficult at first, but nothing impossible. I just missed a "Retry" to restart the game.

At all, good work! :)

Raeldor responds:

Thanks for the review! I'm working on the first chapter of the game, that will have 3 levels and some story, also working on the menu system and the help menu.

This games really neat. I like the pixel art graphics and the games difficulty is about right. I haven't beaten the boss yet but ill beat him eventually.
