I think I spent 5 hours on this game.
I feel sad for Ron. Poor guy. Being sentient (after all) of being just a character... that's dooming.
I watched this after your last Zombie Detective game =] I liked your content so I browsed for some other.
Thank you, very glad this old game's still been played after all these years!
Hope you had fun! :) (Poor Ron)
Another hidden gem of a game. This is up there with The Dead Case as one of the best point-and-click games on Newgrounds, or indeed on the internet. I feel kind of honoured to play it, and it's two years old! Man.
A lot of point-and-click adventure games had absolutely nonsense logic, and not in a fun way like Monkey Island. Here, though, with the possible exception of deciding to eat the banana, everything you can do (or not do) makes sense from a logical perspective as long as you're clever enough to think of it. The idea of having a single button light up everything selectable on the screen is genius, as that's another bugaboo in these types of games. The game was funny as hell to me, although that might just be my sense of humour (combined with the fact that I'm a fast reader). If you're struggling or don't want a bad ending, here's a tip: there's a "right" way to become a Pirate-Wizard-Hero, and a "cheating" way to do it. One isn't necessarily harder than the other, but to "cheat" try to circumvent the task they ask you to do in some way.
My one regret is that I never figured out what possible use there is for the princess or the sleeping(?) chest. One day, Escape THE GAME. One day.
Thank you a lot for your kind and detailed review (and sorry for my reply being so late!)
I'm glad someone still enjoys this old game, I'll definitely think about making a remake of this one (or even a sequel) with better graphics, once I'm done with the Dead Detective series.
Hope you'll enjoy that one, too!
As for the sleeping chest, I can tell you that's just there as a tribute but you can do nothing with it. As for the princess... if you really can't find a use for her, check the walkthrough (in the options panel)
Once again, thank you for playing and for your very kind review!
Remember playing this way back in 2015. Like the Sam & Max reference somewhere, the bugs, Monkey Island 3d Render reference which you made for voice acting "Read it it out!!" and pretty much everything Monkey Island related, every time I see this game I want to play it again. Good job, though couldn't get ending 2 which I suspect is the Cheating ending but got all of them, also don't know how to get the Drunk Hero achievement, but whatever.
Ahahah I'm glad you liked this game that much, I'm very proud of it.
Unfortunately I think it didn't get the love it would have maybe deserved, because of the graphics - which, I admit, are pretty bad.
Still, I'm very happy whenever a player had fun with this game despite the bad drawings, thank you! :)
I like the idea of "breaking the fourth wall" (means having a character become aware of their fictional nature)
also love the concept of being a hero, wizard, and a pirate at the same time (which is not all games can choose them all LOL)
the pirate guy reminds me of Guybrush Threepwood (maybe he is Guybrush Threepwood, because he is good at insulting too)
Thank you, I'm glad you liked this old game!
And that is absolutely no Guybrush Threepwood!!! Even if he talks like him, and he looks like him, and he has a similar name... That's not him!
It's a copyright free character! I swear!
Very good game. The non-linearity is strong. The humor is funny. The plot is engaging. The graphics are good despite what the game itself claims. Especially the protagonist's emotional reactions are perfectly animated. The difficulty is respectable. Despite being stuck for a while in at least two places, this game doesn't gets boring if you don't know what to do, because the games world is interesting and diverse and there are a lot of options to try. Even the cursor was animated which is great. And lot's of medals. And a lot of funny cultural references from Arthurian legends, to classic adventure games like Escape from Monkey Island to Star Wars and Matrix and more. And good music. A perfect package!
