Film Studies

Based on a film study class I took in high school and how painfully shit/pretensious the majority of the films were. I did this for a cutout, stop motion animation project that was themed 'surprise,' so naturally I started the film with a rat being eaten.

The character design for this is amazing. And for a cut out stop motion, nice lighting and framerate. I liked this short; funny and relatable storyline, along with some cool visuals. Good work!

DanyellSmith responds:

Thanks for the feedback dude! Really Appreciate it!

I am truly sorry for the tremendous disservice done you by your high school in this film studies operation. Either for you being too young (period) or by simply not having the best information at hand for each film, you have been underserved...
There is a certain quality to the rat being eaten as a start, but beyond shock value, there just isn't much more to be understood. I, frankly, have valued the occasions of film review, from high school and beyond, and there have been many more metaphors with so much more meaning... Please. take a different course and try to assert yourself to understand in your own style. It's been my experience, that's exactly what most film review classes are about anyway.

DanyellSmith responds:

Hahaha! No need to fear, I didn't intend for this to be a jab at all film review/study. This is aimed only at those films whose derived meaning obviously wasn't intended by the director/writers, but have it thrust upon them by people who are trying to rationalize their own weird little thesis.

There are some pretty twisted movies out there indeed! Gets me thinking of Un Chien Andalou (that wouldn't be one of the ones you watched by any chance?). A short and spot-on skit on the supposedly meaningful abstractionism of the artform! Nicely done.

DanyellSmith responds:

Thanks heaps for the review! But no, I wasn't specifically referencing Un Chien Andalou, though from what I have seen of it, it has very similar content to what we studied.
