- Visually exciting lightning weapon effect, at least for me :-)

If you are yourself a game developer and interested in what tools and resources I used to create this game, CLICK on the medals link. I don't hide my sources ;-) Oh, one more thing. Originally I came up with an explosion effect that looks nice but is quite resource-intensive in the higher levels when too many instances are created . So I deactivated it and replaced it with a sprite sheet animation. However, I left the original effect inside for sentimental reasons, and you can toggle this effect on/off anytime by hitting CTRL.

I really enjoyed this game, I will agree with Tony on the music, it is good but gets old after awhile. Smooth game. Love the concept. Very challenging. Nice job!!!

poolfish responds:

Thank you so much for the good rating. So, at the moment of this writing, there are at least 4 people (including me :-) who love playing this game. You are right. The music is not to everyone's taste. I for one could hear it all day long ;-) But next time I will try to come up with something that is generally more appealing.

I like this a lot... once I figured it out.

Completely ignored the boring yellow box full of text (TLDR) and thought WTF???

Would be much improved by a simple graphic that you can't miss:
COLLECT: *
AVOID: *
Attract/Repel = space

Hey, this is a good advice. Thank you for this, Tony. I will take this into account in my next game project. At the moment I'm just too tired and busy with other things to make any changes to my current game file. Somehow I anticipated that most people won't read my lengthy "yellow box" instructions and click the "Play" button right away, so I came up with the idea to add a computer voice, instructing people how to play. But I think most people don't listen either :-) Anyway, I think that's the reason why I lose most of my players, if not all, since they don't know what to do. I'm glad I did not lose you :-)

Wow, I don't get the low scores. I really like this. It took me a while to figure out just what was going on, but once I did everything became clear. It's basically an avoidance game, but you must collect green orbs to survive. Red orbs will hurt you, so you hit the button to change the polarity of your ship. When you're surrounded by green orbs or red orbs, it's pretty obvious what to do, but when they start mixing together, skill is important. When to hit the button and how to dodge the wrong orbs? The addition of asteroids and enemy ships adds another dimension. When your weapon kicks out, trying to grab a new power up without getting damaged can be a challenge.

I've seen people give 1 star for a game without a mute button. Here you have a mute button, a pause button, colorful graphics, solid sounds, tight control. Unless you've plagiarized the game, I don't know what more people want.

The only criticism I have is about the music. The sound is good, but I find the song to be pretty annoying. Also, I don't like the computer's voice. She sounds like a bored Home Ec. teacher. See if you can come up without something a little sweeter.

poolfish responds:

I want to thank you for your kind words, and that you had some fun playing the game. You are right, I should have chosen another music track or computer voice, since most players are obviously turned off by that, just click away and give me a low rating. By the way, I used a popular software here in Germany called "Magix Music Maker" to create the computer voice with the built-in "text-to-speech" utility. You just have to enter some text, and then an audio sample is generated for further editing. It's as easy as pie. I found the voice sounded cool, and I wanted it sounding robotic and bored, after all it's the spaceship's on-board computer talking to you, not a human :-) Did you know, it's no one else than "Microsoft Anna" talking to you! Just google these two words if you want to find out more. Oh, if you consider using free tools and resources as plagiarism, then I plagiarized a lot :-) Just CLICK on the medals link at the bottom of the menu screen to see a listing of all the free tools and resources I used to create this game.
