ABOUT:
Hacky the Raccoon was built in 1999/2000 and released in 2001. It was the first Flash fighting and sports game to use gravity and one of the first ever released on Newgrounds. It was made in Flash 5, the first version to allow game development. The original game file was too big for Newground’s early restrictions, so an exception was made to link to the game from Newgrounds. Fifteen years later, we offer you the full embedded Newgrounds experience; as originally designed.

Note: High scores and subscription use old technology and are no longer working. The original source files are still unrecoverable, but the rest of the game works.

Read the reviews and had to log in comment. This game is a piece of goddamn internet, Flash and Newgrounds history. I remember when it hit the front page of NG. It's a basic game but this game was hyped and it was groundbreaking at the time of release. The most polished and advanced looking flash game around at the time. I remember looking at the highest graphics quality setting slider and wondering if I'd one day own a machine capable of rendering it without terrible chopiness.

Watching the trailer brought back memories. Back then there wasn't a lot of choice for good games so you spent a lot of time with even a simple one. Fond memories of running back and forth with Tom's shovel and Glenn's shotgun. Phil's chainsaw was always too unpredictable for me.

Reading the reviews all I can say is damn whippersnappers of today... no idea what HISTORY and ART is. Glad this thing is available. Quick Google search of 'hacky the raccoon' brought me here.

God bless Newgrounds for continuing to host this early piece of internet art and for the artist Steve Hutchison and all other collaborators. This ranks up there with Pico's School and NG Skate. PAY YOUR RESPECTS YOU IGNORANT PEONS.

The game is tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it it's really fun. Just unlocked Drew Barrymore.

I understand this game was made 15 years ago but I just don't see anything valuable about it.

Steve-Hutchison responds:

Since it's one of the first Flash game ever made, I guess I'll have to settle for nothing more than historical value!

wth is this? and y is it under the sports category? very weird and boring.

Steve-Hutchison responds:

Read the description. Let me know if you have more questions.

This needs to be part of a NG history collective.
Even though it may be considerably old and outdated for a flash game, this is probably better than 90% of the "Under Judgement" category.
The music and animation really really takes me back.

Steve-Hutchison responds:

Thank you. Your comment means a lot. The game took a year to make with the conditions and workarounds taken, but it was all the more rewarding because the timing was perfect. Until they randomly surface, we consider the source files lost. If we manage to unlock or recover those, we'd love to add 100 "lives" to keep the game going!
