nostalgia is hitting HARD
Hey! To start this decade right, we believe Newgrounds should be ad-free for EVERYONE. For this to work, we need people who have the means to become paying supporters. For just $3 per month or $25 for the year, you can help this happen and get some nice perks!
For the month of January we have disabled ads on all E-M content. We need 192 people to reach our January goal of 3,000 active supporters. If we hit that, we'll continue with a new goal in February!
Please check out our Supporter Upgrade and consider coming aboard!
nostalgia is hitting HARD
Ah the nostalgia...
i still say it feels like a step back from the open ended nature of Freeway Fury 2. not here, obviously, since i just now nabbed the badges, but wherever i played it first. trying to figure out the best sections to maximize score was part of the allure for me, besides the plethora of different stage area effects and figuring ways either around them or to power through them always, even with the motorcycle area, gave you a sort of charge that you don't get from this reiteration.
i think i appreciated the art and presentation of the last game better too. don't get me wrong, the in-game graphics and mechanics seem to be much more spot-on than they were in the last go, and the diagonal jumps don't give me anywhere near as much grief. plus, backwards diagonal jumps! it's about time! :D
about the only few other things i can say is that i found it strange that it awards the Boss Defeated medal before you actually jump on the ship and finish it off. i know it seems like a technicality, but just like in FF2, it is certainly possible to still screw it up in the time it takes to finish him off.
also, though at least you offered a few more points for it, those tanks rarely showed up enough in that one area as it is: took quite a few (i.e. several) restarts for a second to even show up at all, and i thought i was playing it pretty cool. maybe not. and that chopper seemed to take out the tank pretty dang quickly too. (although maybe it's just too damaged by the time i get it too the 2nd stretch. could be...) the rest of it was pretty easy or straight-forward. just thought i might mention those.
It's still a great game, but it has a slew of issues.
The graphics are the worst in the series so far. I understand that sometimes you have to sacrifice certain aspects for the game to play better, but they don't look good at all. I've seen worse, but still.
Also, the game feels watered down compared to Freeway Fury 2. That game was, at one point, my favourite flash game of all time because of how open it was. Seeing the series revert to a straight path is quite strange, but it works for this installment at least.
I absolutely hated the story though. In my opinion, the series shouldn't have one. Looking back at it, it's hardly any good. Despite these issues, it will always be a damn good game to play.
Who did the music for this game?
