The Games We Play

Share Collapse

This is my homage to growing up with videogames and my final work made while studying at Sydney College of the Arts in 2008.

Production Notes:

The towns name was inspired by the names of the neighboring
suburbs I grew up in, Punchbowl and Bankstown.
Hence, I came up with the name Punchtown.

All the shots were drawn dot by dot in flash and then later
edited in Final Cut. I referenced a whole lot of images from games to get the look
and colour right for each of the segments. There are pop references in there too, some may be dated now but I'll leave it for you to figure out.

The music and SFX were taken directly from my favorite games.
I do not own the rights to the music or SFX and I would like to acknowledge
the following the teams of people, talented artists and developers for doing what they do.

Simply wonderful to me. It's always great when nostalgia and creativity met, in this case you managed to create a whole story arc using many different game elements every childhood gamer can remember, combined with some very fitting 8-bit sounds.

What really brought a tear to my eye (no kiddin') was your final scentence: "For that is life and these are The Games We Play". Together with the music and the atmosphere of the Outro - great. Just great. A simple scentence, yet also deep and thoughtful. Kudos!

Ecles responds:

I'm glad you liked my short and thanks for taking the time to let me know your thoughts.
I really do appreciate it.

Aw thanks, the last bit was a nod everybody who grew up playing video games.

THANK YOU!
