Old Earth: The Scavengers

Share Collapse

*EDIT* Thanks for the front page, guys! There's more to come!

Long ago, the Earth people feared extraterrestrial invasion, meaning to keep their bloody battles of swords and sorcery to themselves. After the awakening of technological development, they opted to mine asteroids and build a great ceiling over the atmosphere. However, before this could be completed, the on board lights and radiators that were supposed to emulate the sun irreparably gave out. Plunged into darkness, half the western hemisphere lost all plant life and became the Deadlands. One day, the ceiling broke apart, and a rich mine of forgotten civilizations and mysteries opened up to those who gave enough of a crap to find them. Since these times, other planets have been colonized and called Earth, leaving this desperate place to be known as Old Earth.

Okay, so two things I learned while making this:

Do NOT make a cartoon in one scene! I've had complaints about pacing, and thought having only one scene would give me more control over it. This was a time consuming mistake. Establish your pacing when you cut the audio, because if you ruin one layer, it's ruined for the whole film.

Make your backgrounds BEFORE you draw/animate anything else. It was hard for me to tell where these characters resided in space since I did backgrounds LAST.

Thanks for watching!

Is an awesome start, a bit too fast in the pacing but I’m stoked where the second and third episode of Old Earth takes our weary and scandalous scavengers

Found this after your big senior thesis production. Nice to see the beginnings of that amazing project.

Hey. Cool animation. I know who you are.

I see some inspiration in adventure time here. Overall very good. But for some reason the quality of th ebackgrounds and characters seem to diverge.

Pretty good. The voicing was a little hard to distinguish at times. In particular Jeb's (spelling?) voice made it kind of hard to understand him without jacking my volume. I realize he had a unique voice affect to give it good characteristics, but it wasn't very clear.

Overall, though, I would say this is pretty solid. I would definitely watch a sequel.

Fantishow responds:

Yeah. My hard drive crashed a bit into making this, and I couldn't recover the file I used to edit the audio. I was worried that would be a problem. Also, you spelled it right, but that doesn't really matter.
