Extreme Edit: This game CAN be played in 2021 and later, but some research that could potentially start from the provided link, is required: https://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1462882

This is my entry for the Stencyl Jam 2014 contest.

EDIT: Well. I'm now pretty much done with the "story" part of this game, so I'm adding that in this update. I would still want to add a level select, but if I do that, it will be after the contest!

Finally, it's done! Kinda...

I had to reach the deadline, so I had to leave some things undone. I've worked really hard on this over the past month, even if I had my matriculation exams in between. Also, this is actually my first game ever, so because of that, I'm pretty proud; I've learned a lot! You can read a bit more about the game here:

IF YOU'RE STUCK ON THE SAME LEVEL AS EVERYONE ELSE then click that same link. In one of the comments I spoiled how you solve that level. Good luck ;)

Also, due to popular demand, a video tutorial (of some quality) can finally be found on youtube! Read more in the youtube description XD

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2KIs_mwJEg

INSTRUCTIONS:

-Arrow keys to move, jump with the 'up' arrow key. You jump higher if you hold the key.

-You can climb the walls. That's right, you don't even need to walljump, you'll go upwards if you jump when on a wall.

-You can slide down walls by moving against them. You'll also jump extra far if you press 'up' along with a directional arrow key, at the same time!

-If you're in game (not the title/menu etc) you can pause with 'p'.

-Press 'r' to restart.

-Mute sfx with 's'.

-Mute music with 'm'.

(The mute buttons can be troublesome every now and then, so don't play with them too much)...

And yes, all the levels are very possible.

Everything is made by me: The "programming", the music, the "art", the sound effects (some using presets, though), the level design; even the font XD

This might still have some bugs, so if you spot any, tell me, and I'll see what I can do. You can ask me any other question, as well.

If you're gaming experience is laggy, try right clicking and selecting "low" quality. It shouldn't change much at all, but the game might run smoother.

Extra special news: If you want to read about some stuff I've done in the past, apart from the great Newgrounds, check out my blog!

I've written tons of weird stuff over there :p

EDIT: I added a few new medals. If you've already completed the game, you should be able to get them all by loading the game and beating the final level again!

Even if this project is still 'slightly' unfinished, I hope you'll take some time to rate honestly, and maybe even write a review!

Anyhow. The contest is now done, and this game finished on 4th place! Congratz to all the other winners, and thanks to all of you, for such an awesome Stencyl Jam 2014!

Thank you for your attention, and thanks for playing ;)

gg brah

good but fuck you for that jump

What an incredible game. How did I miss it?
Everything goes with the concept: the sound (I especially love how neither the death sound effect nor the victory sound effect disturbs the music), the visuals (static is exactly how I would picture depression: no information anywhere, nothing making you happy or sad or angry anymore, just the same white noise everywhere), how some levels were frustrating and you had to be patient to finally figure out how to overcome them...
To the point. Congrats for your 4th place, by the way (5 and a half years later, but hey)

I don't understand the story too well, but great controls, perfect music used, and great background and character design to help fit the dark vibe of the game.

This is a genuinely interesting game that I repeatedly keep coming back to experience. I'm not a particularly depressive person myself, but it certainly fuels a somber part of my subconscious that I really cannot explain. Personally, it's not game as much as it's an experience.

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

I'm not a particularly depressed person either, but I wanted certainly to create an experience. As for the game mechanic, it's something I thought of way back when I was a kid. Thanks for coming back to the game, and for leaving a review!
