*first submission

*just started making games in flash (so, newbie much?)

* using flash 2004 so, that might make things cringe worthy but I understand some of the script/I find it easier to learn for right now.

*i'm just testing things out

*caution: not really something "playable", has some interaction but not much (left and right arrow key input that's it)

Just had an idea to give the "illusion" of a character teleporting around on the screen.

The sprite is quite tiny and is actually a little bunny girl, an OC named Diamond.

Nothing serious to it, just wanted to see if stuff would work out.

-and it did after a few hours.

*springboard/stepping stone for the future :]

What does posting your gameplay test here gives to your game?
At least if you bringed a revolutionnary gameplay, but without graphism / story / ... it would be great, but your piece of code is just ... am stopping here because as you said "Nothing serious to it, just wanted to see if stuff would work out." It works, delete it.

No Music, cheap animations and graphics :(

i am sorry but only 1/5, cause of i dont know how to vote 1,5.

improve ur work a bit and u will get better results by voting.

Mujinai responds:

Hmm...

I'm still learning to incorporate music. I'm able to get music to play but setting up script and getting it to stop (or fade out gently) when transitioning to a specific frame or scene is a problem at the moment I'm still looking at.

So, no music for now.

Animations and graphics- I really compromised them for the sake of just getting something to work, and that something was seeing if I could get a "sprite" (a movie clip symbol) to "appear"/"disappear" from certain spots on the screen by hitTesting and transitioning to a different frame...

I'll aim to obtain better results by improving a lot more-it'll just take a lot more time (and more planning out for me to make anything remotely even worthwhile).

Its a good proto from what I can see. Although, Id be careful when using newgrounds as your dumping grounds for prototypes with features you are testing out. Some people seem to be actually mixing this up with a completed game. But, I guess thats what you get when most of them dont read the descriptions XD

Mujinai responds:

Actually...what you said is exactly what I did: I just opened the account yesterday and posted this with no intention for this to be a completed worth while game. I just started making games in an old version of flash recently and wanted to see if I could at least get something down. My intent was to be able to have a place where I could store/post incomplete ideas but I should have made that specifically clear in the description then. Thank you for this though, and thank you for seeing that. I'll definitely be more mindful of what I post/submit and more clear with my descriptions.

I can get away with nonsense for descriptions on other sites because they're more lenient with submission guidelines and gallery content doesn't always need a purpose. It's my first time here on this website so i'll straighten up, lmao :]

All I see is a deleted submission:(

Hmm, ok, I'm going to take into account what you wrote in 'Author Comments' and tell you what I think:

It's a bit simplistic, unpolished and bland. It's a good attempt, but not anything special or worthwhile to me as a user/ reviewer. The game/ your project does not have a page which explains what the purpose of the game is. I don't think there was any objective as far as I can see.

The use of colours in the game are quite good, however, the main character took me a while to locate. I didn't even notice her until I continuously moved here from left to right!

Now this is not to damper you as a developer. If this is your first attempt (or an attempt which just took a few hours), I reckon this could be at least a half decent project.

You need to take time (longer than what you have spent already) to make it average, let alone great!

As a reviewer having seen many games/ movies, I can suggest a few things:

1) You're main character HAS to be visible. Be it that she is coloured into the game (i.e., not just a silhouette of the person, which is very similar to the other surrounding scenery, namely PINK AND BLACK)

2) More imaginative background, or a less crude/ unpolished background.

3) Music

4)Action music, ie, hearing the character move from left to right, teleportation sounds, etc.

5) Usage of the full screen- I can see 2 white lines on either side of the game.

6) An objective/ goal

7) A story plot, i.e., WHY is she there, is that part of the game? Did she wake up into a living dream/ nightmare?

8) More things to do, i.e., jump/ shoot (optional),

Ideally, it doesn't have to be an action thriller/ racer etc....so long as you as a developer can interact with me the reviewer, via your game. This is the fundamental of any game. See how other developers do their projects just to get an idea.

I think you have a good idea here, but you need to add more ingredients to the pot before it can be called a game. Otherwise its like a turkey roast...without the turkey, or the seasoning, or the vegetables...you get the idea.

Sometimes, projects take more than a few hours to be great and I reckon you can definitely make this much much better if you spent a bit longer on it, i.e., longer than a few hours!

Hope this helps, and look forward to seeing more creations!

Mujinai responds:

Oh my gosh, I wasn't expecting feedback/comments of any kind for the exact reason that this was so..just a small thing.

I'm not deterred though by any of what has been said. It's my fault for not being specific or more thorough (or any semblance of it) in my description.

First though, I want to say thank you so much for your comment and the details you added.

There really was no true point to this"game"- it was just to see if I could work through some script to get things to work. I did just very recently (a few days ago) start trying to make things happen in an old version of flash and decided to post it here as an unfinished "thing" that I could look back on and say I did "something"/"something worked" before tackling anything that can, by what you've said, be called a real "game". But what you said is true though, I can't really call this a "game", especially one with any true substance, not even close.

This submission really is just, hmm, a result of trying to make something happen and using it as a spring board. I also wanted to see what I could make using the tools that were available in flash 2004 since that is the only version I have at the moment.

More ingredients...

But gosh, thank you so, so much for this. It's put so many more things into perspective, and maybe I should try to set more ambitious standards even for "prototypes" or "tests". This shall be a very memorable learning experience. This definitely helped, once again, thank you, thank you. :] <3
