UPDATE - V1.1:
Thanks for all the plays and feedback. I'm very happy with the reception this game has gotten. This game seems to have resonated with a lot of you, and that's very cool.

I realize that many of you are getting frustrated with the game, but that's the point. Many people who are disabled in real life do get frustrated. Life isn't always fair, and I wanted to try and portray that in this little game.

Changes:

- Added a way to restart with a different disability from the first room
- Made it so you respawn on the side of the room you came from
- Got rid of unintended annoyances while playing Spastic
- Added an indication right before a tic when playing Spastic
- Made lava bubble hitbox a little smaller
- Shameless self promotion links when clicking "A Game By Cory Martin"
- Fixed a typo
- Other minor tweaks
- Secret

BACKGROUND INFO:

i had a couple more disabilities planned and their systems in place (scared of socialization, armless) but I couldn't work them in the actual levels in time.

On the second day of Ludum Dare, I wasn't really happy at all with how the game was turning out; it was devoid of character and the level design was haphazard. I decided to take another day and try and fix it up the best I could and submit it in time for the 72 hour jam instead. After not sleeping and spending the whole day introducing new mechanics, designing levels, adding in all the dialog and thematic elements and other miscellaneous things, I think I turned it into a decent game.

The game is potentially very unfair, especially with certain disabilities, but I think that fits the message of the game well.

Reviews

Really interesting and well designed game. It was definitely frustrating at times, but every disability felt like it fit the theme and had relevant gameplay. My first play was with Nearly Blind - I wouldn't recommend it as it was the most frustrating, but then again it was probably the most authentic possible experience of the game. It was still reasonably doable.

Also, tip for the secret medal (spoilers), in Spastic I'm pretty sure the game is scripted to make you fall into the hole. So don't beat it multiple times trying to avoid it like I did :P.

Do you think if I showed this to a child, they'd learn to hate disabled people?

Well, I played this a while back, and replayed it recently, and while I haven't felt angry at crippled people for their problems, this does make me hate hack game developers who sacrifice a game to make a cliche, poorly done "message". I've seen this sort of thing before. It's a Ludum Dare game, with pixel art, and it's a side-scroller, with one-hit deaths. There's some terribly-done mechanic the game is focused around, and character designs made by people almost as unoriginal as Hollywood itself.

Look, I'm keeping this short, because I've said these things many times before, and the only real way to convey just how terrible this game is would be showing the amount of times I yelled "fuck this game" while playing it.

This would be 0.5/5 normally, but the sex slavery stuff being handled with the care I'd expect from a fucking 7-year old after being smacked in the head several times dropped it down to a zero. Shame on you for putting that trash in this... trash.

This was both a waste of my time, and a waste of an interesting concept.

Oh, and by the way? Put a pause button on your trash before releasing it. The game is artificially lengthened by "fake difficulty", as its called, so I'd like to have a moment to breathe before delving into this "game" again.

This game's only accomplishment is that it made me hate spastic people.

People find this review helpful!

As much as I like this game, it's way too hard to appreciate the "disabled" aspect when the game is nearly impossible with fucking illiteracy. I genuinely feel sorrow for anyone who got literally anything else and for sure failed every try. Overall, great idea, but it's way too hard for a normal person to play.

"The Dark side" wanted to take over.. smash computer & press zero stars - but no..
.. Game is really good.. and i really appriciate - that music..
Grafic is pretty nice (by me - a lot of pixelated games.. are mostly much better that our "new productions" with "incredible grafic" ... but no story or great gameplay) ..
.. That one - is pretty good..
