This was made from scratch in two days for Ludum Dare 26.

Potato The Destroyer is a challenging minimalistic action platformer where you play as a potato on a mission to make his minimalistic world even more minimalistic by defeating The Crystal Potato of Destiny.

-Controls-
L/R Arrow Keys: Move
Z or Up: Jump
X or Space: Shoot
Down Arrow Key: Enter and unlock doors

This was my first time participating in Ludum Dare. Although I'm a little dissappointed in myself for not fully embracing the theme (minimalism), I think this turned out to be a pretty cool game. I learned a lot about level design and what goals are and are not attainable in such a strict time period. I planned a lot more content but just couldn't do it in time. Like, I had these desert tiles, this desert song and this enemy that all went unused.

I hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think.

-UPDATE Apr. 30 2013-
I finished a post competition version of the game which features a few enhancements.

Changes:
-Easier difficulty mode
-Simple story intro
-SPACE for shooting and UP for jumping
-Minor level design enhancements
-Informative and non-informative signposts
-Key displays in the HUD when you posses one
-Key has its own sound effect
-Removed an unused song from the file

Fairly hard on the normal difficulty, and way too easy on the simpler one. I don't have any glaring specific gripes aside from the difficulty and the repetitiveness of the music. Controls could have been slightly looser, but it is what it is.

Kcori responds:

Difficulty balancing has to be the biggest game design problem I've ever encountered. I watched this one guy play my game and he was absolutely horrible at it and couldn't get past the first area, so Chill Mode was based on that. I've also seen and heard from people who got through Normal mode without too much frustration. So I'm in this state where I want to please people of all skill levels but I haven't quite figured out how yet. I could add another difficulty level but that may just complicate things more; like, how would you know which one to select?

Thanks for your feedback.
