Ode To Pixel Days

"Ode To Pixel Days" is about a teenage boy, Hans, having a crush on a cheerleader. Hans gets rejected by the cheerleader, because he is ugly, and not charismatic. Hans tries to change this by building a machine that will make everyone look the same. When everyone looks the same, he can have the girl of his dreams! But of course, in reality, things don't work that way; and Hans is about to get into some bitter experiences.

The game is played in a castle, that represents the world created by Hans' mind. The game's artistic goal is to put the players in Hans' mind, to make them play through his emotional experiences, hopes and dreams. The core experience of the game is the feelings a boy goes through when he gets into puberty; loneliness, sadness, low self-esteem, the desire to change things about you and everything around you.

This game is made completely by one person, and that is me.

Lemme say this: I HATE ALL PIXEL GAMES. The Idea was used up wayyyy to much and had turned the entire genre into pure shit, to the point of making the characters looking like lines and complain how they slaved doing the art. THEY WERE FUCKING 8 BIT BOXES. But... yours wasnt too bad. The enmy AI could have been better tough, but it did bring me back to the legend of zombies ate my neighbors.

I make pixel-art for two reasons. 1st is I'm ashamably bad at vector art, yet :( The second is I love squares! Glad you enjoyed it :)

I must write a review because this game is pretty good. I think this game is a masterpiece. It's a tribute to old games and really you got it. You play with the evolution of the player made by pixels, and no everyone can do it... It's the best pixel game i have ever played, so congratulations. Keep it up, you'll be a master in videogame industry. ^_^

Thank you! You're so kind! Thank you very much for your nice words :) glad you enjoyed it.

The game is well played, underlined with an answer to the question of teenage life and their desires.
The game design is kept easy yet the message is great and lets the player explore the world of "Hans".
A typical, more ancient than modern german name, which is often depicted as a loser.
Hans gets to learn his different sides and starts to learn more about his abilities and his weaknesses.
The ending yet seems terrifying and projects that it is better off to commit suicide if you are a loser, which certainly may not be what you implied to prjoect.
All in all the game deserves a 4.5/5 for the great effort.
Keep up the good work.

thank you for your lovely and thoughtful comment :)

as you might already guessed, I didn't make the ending as if Hans was commiting suicide, it was something different. But I guess I should be fine with your interpretation as well, because it's very frequent!

Thanks for playing and putting some time to write a thoughtful comment!
