Good game. And I love the music that starts directly at the beginning of the game.
And game beaten. I've got to say, it was only up until the rooms numbering in the late thirties that it started to get really hard. Still, between getting all the grapefruit, having to stop and think on the best possible course of action later in the game and completing both the expert rooms and the time trial, I don't think it took me more than an hour or so...
...though if I had to criticize at least one thing, then I'd have to say I don't really like the lack of leeway in the time trial's challenge. You have four minutes (3:59.9) to get the trophy, but if you screw up so much as once throughout the entire thing, you have to press 'Q' and start all over again. It's not so much about the speed itself that it is about pure memorization of the levels. "Which way do I need to run at the start", "how many blocks are there to push and (if any) how far", and "do I need to detour for anything" were among the most common thoughts that ran through my mind at the time... and even after I perfected my run, I just barely beat it with 2.7 seconds to spare; one misstep and you basically just waste four minutes of your life. I mean, granted, it only took me about ten tries at most, but the average gamer would probably give up on the time trial after about... attempt #50?
One more thing that sort of disappointed me is the 'story' within the game (if it can so be called)--it just seemed like you gave up on it partway through. It wasn't particularly engaging at any point, and to me, it just felt like the game would've been better off without... and the final encounter was sort of bland as well. You get to the final room, you enter a cinematic cutscene of sorts and you think, "Aw, yeah, prelude to an awesome boss battle"... but you kind of just gave us a real cop-out ending there. What with the inclusion of forks and spoons and whatnot, you could've had a fairly interesting final encounter, but I feel like this game still had some untapped potential of sorts.
But hey, it's worth a solid four stars considering all the post-game content. The expert rooms were a nice touch, and just because I said the time trial was a pain in the ass doesn't mean I didn't think it was fun by any means.
There's pretty significant leeway in the time trial, actually. It's very possible to beat it with about 30 seconds to spare. As for the story, it's strange, but I really put most of the effort into the ending. I knew pretty early on what I wanted to happen with the ending and it never involved a violent confrontation.
this is glitchy. i can hardly jump!!!!!
great game, great story, great mechanics but THE DAMN JUMP BUTTON IS SO F***IN UNRESPONSIVE! HALF THE TIME IT JUST WON´T JUMP! it drives me nuts, you know
I like this kind of games espacially the awesome endings.
Unfortunately the medals dont work...
