Revive is a pixelated puzzle platformer in which you defy death, define life, and jump in puddles of syrup.

It is also a spiritual successor (in more ways than one) to a game of mine called Respawn.

Man, this project started small and snowballed into something more complex and personal over time. Four months of care were put into Revive's design, so without giving too much away, I hope you enjoy the ride.

Also, let me know if you find any glitches anywhere, and I will address them when I can!

[List of Fixes]
The Time Trial Run medal point value has been increased, slight changes have been made to the controls (such as pressing UP to jump), the collision detection on forks has been improved, and a couple of problems with the main menu are now gone.

I've heard the controls stick for some people. Not sure what would cause this, so if anyone can provide more details about this (like when it happens, what browser you're using, etc.), let me know.

A video walkthrough is now available: hMHp-E

I miss games like this... and I definitely love this one!

JonBro responds:

Thank you :)
I usually find myself making games that I think the world should have more of.

its alrite. i was expecting more aswell, i love a good challenge and this game did have it! its a good game to "pass the time"

JonBro responds:

I never intend to make games just to "pass the time". Good review, I give you 2/5 stars because a failing grade is the same thing as "good" these days

"19 test rooms? A friendly voice that implies evil stuff? Great, another portal clone."

What I thought when I started playing this. Still, it was almost telling me that "there is a surprise", so I kept playing. And...

Wow. Just wow. Certainly you proved me wrong for expecting a disappointment. That morbid storyline after room 20 was really impressive. Reading through the logbooks gave me goose bumps. Great job on the storyline.

The gameplay, I've seen harder. But this one definitely wasn't easy. I've spent minutes trying to figure out some rooms.

When it comes to the graphics, I believe there is no "textures, shadows, animations" or other stuff. I believe there is failure and there is success. Sometimes a game is meant to look bad, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes other aspects should match the graphics. [REVIVE] has nothing visually wrong, it looks fine overall. Still, I don't care about graphics as long as there is no failure.

Expert rooms are not a bad idea, but I think time trial is. I have tried to finish that as fast as I can, but all it requires is a good memory. You could have spared that spot for something better. Maybe some more expert rooms? Mini-games? Like escaping the ascending lava (or whatever it is) as long as you could? Anyway, you did your best.

The music? Awesome. Command gets repetitive after some time but it's not bad, Obtrusion is just incredible. That's all I can say.

To put it simply. It's not hard to see that you've spent a huge amount of work, thought and time on this. It's rare and amazing. Thanks for an amazing experience.

Not unique enough. I feel like there's been TONS of games like this but you brought a kinda' interesting gimmick to the mix. It just wasn't that challenging or too interesting. Not bad just mediocre.

JonBro responds:

Question--how much of the game did you play before writing the review?

the keys are are so glitchy. it would be fun to play but it just stinks. i'll give u half for trying

JonBro responds:

I used ActionScript 2.0, which apparently isn't completely compatible for all computers. I assure you if you try playing this game on another computer, there's a good chance you will have absolutely no problems with the controls whatsoever.
