You have fallen into a vast underground maze. Can you find your way out, or will you end up trapped in darkness forever?

We recommend playing in a dimly lit room with your speaker or headphone volume turned up. It's best to play I Can't Escape late at night, as it is an eerie exploration experience.

Troubleshooting: This game requires flash player 11+. If you don't have flash player 11, the game will tell you, and you should download it (for free) here: .

If you get the error "requires 3D hardware rendering," that means it's not running on your graphics card for some reason. Try right clicking the game, clicking settings, and make sure "enable hardware acceleration" is checked in the display tab, then refresh the page. If that doesn't work, try updating your graphics card driver or your flash player version.

If you're using windows 8, cheese123 mentioned to me that he couldn't get the game to run unless he ran chrome in windows 8 mode. If you're using windows 8 and having trouble, you can try that and see if it makes a difference. Thanks a lot to cheese123!

If you are still having trouble playing the game, feel free to send me a PM!

This game is SO awesome and I have some suggestions to make it possibly even better. I believe those eyes should alert ghosts or monster to your presence if you look directly at them making it more scary to look directly at them. Also I believe the music should get creepier the closer you get. But since it's randomly generated I'm not sure how that would work. If any of these things are already in place excuse me. I think it would be cool to actually see the keys you have as well. I have a bunch more ideas if you're at all interested. if you're fine with your game then I'm fine with it too! 4/5 stars!

I finished it, but I don't get it. I suppose you have to end up on the 2nd floor in order to get keys on the first and then the X teleports you to where the finish is, but the sequence is just odd.

Can't replicate the result without trial and error and the ending was not worth the 2+ hours spent trying to figure it out.

davidmaletz responds:

Yeah, the secret ending is very tough to get (even if you know the trick). Vannius suggested a great idea for how I could make escaping more logical, if still challenging. What the game's really about though is going deeper and seeing how deep and dark the cavern gets!

Well, it's hard to judge, I have mixed feelings about this.
First, what I liked: atmosphere. Visuals, sounds, old-school mechanics and overall creepy mood of the game - it all worked well. You said it was your aim to create specific atmosphere, and you hit it perfectly.
Now, what I disliked about this game: I don't see any viable way for player to resolve this puzzle. There is no path leading to victory inside of the game, and though solution exists, it appears absurd for me. It may be achieved either by accident or by trying just everything to bruteforce it. Or it may come from outside of the game, which isn't what games should rely on and it still doesn't bring more sense to it. This kind of situations is not what I appreciate in games.
In summary, I can't say I'm satisfied with this as a game. But when thinking about this not as a game, but rather as an interactive form of art, it looks well and really has some value. So overall experience was positive.

This is really good! was surprised that it was a horror game and I thought I could make it but ended up forever trapped lol The atmosphere was great and the tensions kept on building as I fell from one level to another.
