You have fallen into a vast underground maze. Can you find your way out, or will you end up trapped in darkness forever?

We recommend playing in a dimly lit room with your speaker or headphone volume turned up. It's best to play I Can't Escape late at night, as it is an eerie exploration experience.

Troubleshooting: This game requires flash player 11+. If you don't have flash player 11, the game will tell you, and you should download it (for free) here: .

If you get the error "requires 3D hardware rendering," that means it's not running on your graphics card for some reason. Try right clicking the game, clicking settings, and make sure "enable hardware acceleration" is checked in the display tab, then refresh the page. If that doesn't work, try updating your graphics card driver or your flash player version.

If you're using windows 8, cheese123 mentioned to me that he couldn't get the game to run unless he ran chrome in windows 8 mode. If you're using windows 8 and having trouble, you can try that and see if it makes a difference. Thanks a lot to cheese123!

If you are still having trouble playing the game, feel free to send me a PM!

THE scariest game I've played on newgrounds! Absolutely amazing and unsettling atmosphere. I find myself coming back to this game the most (still haven't found the exit and I don't want to watch any youtube videos). With that said great game and I look forward to anything else coming in the future. 6/5!

Ah! I finally escaped! First played 2 nights ago and I think this was my fourth or fifth try so I'm pretty pleased with myself. Excellent game, especially if it was done in a month. I'd take some of the suggestions here and make it a full game. Only thing I'd improve is the walking/control and make it so enemies further down can actually end the game. Also, am I playing as a lion, or is that the environment? I noticed sometimes when backing up a growling noise would happen. Oh, and the music was sweet too. Only one I didn't like was the short, heavy synth waning one as that kinda killed my speakers. Way too much stereo being compressed into mono is what that sounds like. My Korg did the same thing if I wasn't setup the right way.

Also, to people having trouble. Just keep in mind there are a lot of walls that can be torn down and visually they're not too hard to miss. The keys don't really help much nor do most of the cage doors in general. Stick to trying to outsmart the setting rather than going for obvious stuff like locked doors, keys, etc.

davidmaletz responds:

The backing up growl was actually a bug! I found the bug after the game was released and the month was over (yes, I made this game in a single month) - when you back up, the sound it plays is incorrect (and most often the roar sound)! But, I decided this was kind of cool and fit the game, as you don't really know what's behind you, so I left it in there!

Great Ambiance, great music, but i' confused about those shadows with the red eyes, u can just ignore them. And that video guide link doesn't work anymore and i can't find another walkthru how to beat it xD
The game is kinda wasted on me i guess. But i like the idea

davidmaletz responds:

The link's not broken, there's just an extra space in there (newgrounds adds it for security reasons I think). Delete the space, and you should be able to see the video: . As for the shadow with red eyes, it's meant to give you pause, and make you wonder if you should really do what you're about to do!

a good and scary game. is there a reason that it goes into auto-fullscreen everytime i click on it to move?

davidmaletz responds:

The game is meant to be played in fullscreen, and in many browsers (firefox included), it is not playable in windowed mode, so that's why it always returns to fullscreen when you click. If you want, however, in chrome you can play the game with arrow keys in windowed mode (just don't click the screen, and it wont go to fullscreen).
