testing out flash, first super rough game! please ignore
p.s. there is sound

EDIT: I am a new user of newgrounds and did not realize how active the userbase is! Excuse my putting up a test game, I was using newgrounds as a temporary dumping ground for my first flash game (it is indeed a test game, I made in two days). I now see it is not an appropraite place for that!

Nontheless, thanks for the feedback and ratings. I appreciate the honest critisism. I'm used to getting unhelpful compliments from my experiences with art sites.

I'm interested in making actual decent games once I learn how to properly use flash... I'd like to keep the feedback so I will see if this stays up and try to keep it.

anyways thanks, I'll bring some better games next time! : )

Nice for a test game. Appropriate music and nice artwork to go along with it. Keep it up, I feel like you have some really good potential in artgames:)

Cool art, you have potential. Try maybe testing your little rough drafts like this on your friends though? You're not going to get any good feedback here for an incomplete game. You clearly have a good idea of how these types of games work and you seem to have a good handle on making a space, I like how the hallways kind of winded on endlessly, it kind of makes you feel disoriented but that only adds to the idea that the game maker has make a "universe".
I have played a lot of these games and I think that you could make some cool stuff. Seems like you have some good Pastel Games influence. :P You kind of have a skeleton here. Take it out, add in some puzzles, locked rooms, notes/story leading up to your final climax... yada, you probably already know this. Just want to give more than negativity. I'll give you a 2 for the art and potential, but since it's not a finished game and really you just have some sketching done, I can't give you more. Good luck!

I'm not going to break your heart. You are a good artist and you should try making a serious game. But please don't ever dump anything this bad on newground for the love of god and all humanity. Still good for a two day game though

ouch, point taken!

when you are creating a game in this genre it needs to have a meaning/story line. The game was too short to create an atmosphere and you may want to add more color. You as the creator are a very good artist and should definitely continue making games.

winterfingers responds:

Thanks, good point. This game did have a vague storyline (you arrive at house to realize you have been writing yourself letters) but obviously it's weak and not communicated well...
Thank for the feedback and encouragement, I'll make some better games!!

Why bother uploading a test like that? Too short to even feel the atmosphere, virtually no interaction/description and hence no tension/momentum/whatever. If it's to be ignored, don't upload, dammit. You obviously can do what you did here, because you did it, so why not make something actually worthwile with these skills and then come back? Please don't share tests, I'd like to see a complete thing from you. I like the minimal art style, the music fits, but that's hardly enough. The premise of the "game" is a bit too "pretentious artistic bullshit" for my taste, but if you put some actual effort into it (i.e. make it an actual game or at least a (visual) novel), it would probably be able to stand on its two feet and I wouldn't be so condescending.

scolded for testiness, praised for being able to do things

winterfingers responds:

ha ha thanks for the scolding! Now that I see how active and helpful the userbase here is, i'll find a more appropriate place to post tests/rough games. I'm new to newgrounds so this was a misunderstanding on my part.

Anyways thanks for the criticism, I'll come back with some real games in the future!

Also i'd be interested in hearing more about what gave you the feeling of 'artistic bullshit', since i've gotten this feeling about things too...
