Author Comments

In this top-down RPG/Defense game, you control a battalion of heroes whose task is to stop wave after wave of free-moving and cooperative monsters. Gameplay is real-time, tactical, and intense. But, you will also have to succeed strategically, selecting a battalion of up to 3 heroes from a possible 7, and growing their attributes and abilities effectively.

Newgrounds high scores can now be accessed through the Battle Preparation Screen.

2012.12.17 - New in v1.240

Keystones from dead heroes will now be restored to the player. The hero will, however, remain dead.

2012.12.14 - New in v1.220

OKAY, OKAY! You can replay levels for more honor! BUT. There will be diminishing returns for multiple replays of the same level. HA!

This game has great potential, but lacks in some pretty major ways.
As stated in some of the previous reviews, the menu system is not very user friendly, and thus, precious game play and enjoyment are lost.
Another thing is that the game play art is a little too small to really take in the value of the world you've created, not to mention what's going on in said world.
The final thing I'll mention is that after completing the tutorial, along with receiving no medal for it, the screen went black, but the music still played. For obvious reasons this is extremely frustrating, and I cannot progress any further in the game. This seems like a major flaw, and I only wish I could play more of the game, as well as give it a higher rating.

Thanks for this thoughtful review, xPaleRiderx. That game freeze is indeed alarming - was it upon clicking "Save & Continue?" This was reported by a few people in the beta test, and we thought we'd tackled it ... can you also let us know your OS and browser?

As for the menu system - how would you change it? We are thinking of adding a widget to toggle hero AI modes live during battle ... how much of an improvement would that be?

Is there some way to replay levels you've already done to level a little more? Because at about wave 4 it was impossible to do anything, the mana regens so slow...

I didn't see any obvious ways to replay previous waves to grind, would have made it at least 4 stars for me.

Replaying waves for honor has been added ... BUT - honor gains will be halved for the level each time you replay it!

Nice try. You've tried to do something good and epic. And you've really did it. Well, it's really epic... But it's difficult to control and almost impossible to play and enjoy it.

You've should think more of a gameplay and how it would be played, and NOT to think like "what else features we can implement->wow we have a huge collection of stand alone features, now we need to combine it and what's in result we'll call a finished product"..
That not the way good games are made.
You should approach right from the start and continue it all the way of development process to think from the player's perspective, and not from the possibilities ("what else we can implement").
