This is a 3D animated short film prologue I spent 9 months working on, it was made in Autodesk Maya and rendered using Pixar's Renderman. The film is about a mysterious character who explores the dark depths of a giant abandoned facility. The purpose of this instalment is to create an atmosphere and establish the environment. It acts as a prologue to a whole series of upcoming shorts films about the character's journey through the facility; this is just the first phase of the story.


I worked with 3ds max for about a year, and from that little experience I can say that this 3d shit is HARD. I liked the setting, colors, lighting, etc. Obviously as others have stated the running sequence of the character could have used some work, like leg movement and adding more movement to the arms. But that does not take away from the enjoyment of this film. I think you did a great job and you definitely have some skills. Keep it up.

I like the scale of the environment compared to the character. But then this is really a simple 3d animation. The run cycle is used throughout the film with no other obvious animation movement lol. Well only the camera moves. Mental ray can do the same trick, why use renderman for??

Btw your animation is too floaty, not much weight. I suggust you reduce the frames between each run poses.

I thought this was really well done considering it's 3D. Your backgrounds were amazing, but the character's leg motion was kinda weird. However that is to be expected since people are the hardest things to do in 3D. Also I have to admit it was a bit boring and felt longer than it was. But it looks amazing and trust me I know how difficult 3D shit is.

Sir, I'm studying 3D Max and Mudbox and therefore know how much work you've put in this.
I wholeheartedly congratulate you, you've created a good character and a spectacular setting where to develop your stories.
I liked the music and sounds, and really liked the camera shots. Even if I'm a complex textures fan, I also liked your achievements with simple materials and texturing. The lightning and the screens were really good too.
I wasn't convinced with how the rigging bends his ass, though, when he walks. The running was good, still I'd make his arms move a little more.

The settings were gigantic! I figure it must have taken ages to render.
This was not a boring short, I disagree with others here, it's one kind of film most people don't understand. Everything is action now, fast paced everything. As I watch many japanese and chinese movies I appreciate a good build up to get soaked with the world presented.

Keep it up! I hope you go far with this!
