-UPDATE 9/24/2012-
You yelled, we listened!
2 major fixes:
Controls! Now you can use the arrow keys to move to your hearts content. If you were silent, but you liked the mouse controls, simply press m to toggle between the two.
Enemies! Enemies now hurt you when their animation hits you, not when their animation starts. This means you can dodge now as well!

A = Shoot (if you have ammo)
S = Stab
M = Switch move style
Movement style 1 = Arrow keys
Movement style 2 = Click to move
Sometimes, defeated enemies drop health, ammo, or coins.
When you have defeated all of the enemies in a room, proceed to the next room by running to the right edge
You can upgrade Hank with collected coins when you die.

Calc and I have wanted to do some sort of collab for a while now, and we did have something much larger started, but due to my terrible ability of backing up anything, we lost it. So about 6 days ago, we decided to make a small project for madness day so we could still have something submitted. We may or may not continue to upgrade this, but for now, please enjoy.

Oh, and don't forget my buddy Zan(Rembobotom) for making the music.

It's ok, but it would be cooler if you had more then a shiv for a melee weapon. maybe add a damage upgrade to it and as it upgrades, it changes to like a machete and a katana. also I think the range on your gun sucks too. If not at least make it shoot further, add an upgrade so it shoots further. Also, if you upgrade your health, have your sprite also change the look of him so he don't look like he is about to keel over. also, maybe have like a boss show up like every 20 rooms and if you beat it it drops like a boss normally does. maybe have like savior or the clown as the last boss at level 100, if you can make it that far.

The game itself has smooth mechanics, no frame rate lag or any other kind of trouble. But the gameplay is quite a lackluster. While the style of the game fits the whole Madness theme, the action or intensity of it is nowhere as exciting. It lacks any sense of progress or completion, it gets quite repetitive after a while because there are only a few backgrounds which loop, the same batch of enemies that look the same in slightly bigger groups and the music doesn't help much either, consider adding a list of songs? The progress, if there was any at all, was very linear and I had no idea how many stages I had passed.

It also isn't very hard to master the game because the enemies are pretty much the same throughout the entire game, none with guns. Just a couple stabs and they fall over, which also makes the rifle look really underpowered because it requires more hits than a little shank knife. Anyone could just move around and press S again and again and kill everyone because the health drops are too common to make it complicated. I only noticed there was an upgrade screen only if you die, hence just only making the game easier after dying and restarting from scratch. Perhaps relocate that to the end of after passing a few stages? That way the upgrades will help IF the game gets more harder. Also maybe add a little spice to the upgrades section like different weapons and stuff.

I understand that this was a small project but I can see that if you are inclined to add some content and tweaks to it, it can improve drastically. Given some extra time and dedication, this game would deserve the front page it was awarded.
