New Eden is a pilot for an animated sci-fi web comedy following the adventures of Murray and Hamilton, two starship crewmen marooned and fighting for their lives on a primordial world after their starship crash lands on the wrong planet!

Here is our pilot episode folks! We'd love to hear what you think. What works for you? What doesn't? What do you want to see more of? Your feedback will be a big help when we come to planning and rolling out more episodes.

well animated, awefully boring.

I gave this two and a half stars because the animation and smoothness is top-rate. The fluidity of it is just sensational and bespeaks an impressive talent on the part of the animator.

Unfortunately, I also gave this two and a half stars because the dialogue and characters are, to be frank, awful. Just because it's a cartoon doesn't mean the characters have to be cartoons. The dialogue doesn't need to revolve around some kitchy crap like "red buttons" or the like. When I write, which is very often, I find it helpful to put myself in the role of the characters one by one to get an honest perspective from which to narrate and speak.

You're marooned on a planet with no supplies, no one of the opposite gender and a wilderness full of hostile flora and fauna - you shan't be concerned about who pressed what button for some time. This is just one example among many.

Perhaps include some dialogue about the main ship not exploding and possibly being intact so it takes the viewers' immediate focus off of the obvious, "how will they survive" question, thus allowing both the audience and the characters to inject NATURAL levity into a situation that would, otherwise, be horrifying.

PS - keep up the great animation!

Glad you dug the animation. Hopefully our series of New Eden Shorts will be more your style. Cheers!

Very awkward, long, and drawn out. The comedic timing is amateurish, the voices are obnoxious, and the jokes are uninspired.

I know how it must feel when you're an animator and you take a long time drawing something and you want to leave it on the screen for as long as possible so everybody gets a good long look at it, but this really needs to be faster paced. Your 6 minute cartoon feels like it's 20 minutes. The best part was the first minute when things were happening all at once and it threw stuff in your face and didn't waste your time.

I would say the quintessential sci-fi comedy cartoon is Futurama, which is saturated with jokes. It's just funny funny funny over and over again with a gag every few seconds and no boring gaps in between. Yeah, that's hard to do. But you gotta make sure you try to throw as many gags at your audience as possible and find every opportunity to do so. And don't milk just one joke because there's a chance it was never funny in the first place. The red button thing was groan-worthy. I feel like you had maybe 2 minutes worth of quality content, so drawing it out to 6 minutes makes your audience just wanna leave.

So... make the characters charming and likable, pick up the pace, don't reuse jokes, don't draw things out, and be original and inspired.

Hm. Interesting. Reminded me of Star Wars, when they flow (fell) away from the green monster.
But I believe we wouldn't be fighting like that, if the situation was real =D

A well-done Animation (no comments on the plot).

Ugghh - I hate how this always happens!

Some awesome, talented individuals work their arses off and create an awesome promo for an upcoming series. It's always, slick, well-made and obviously well fueled by enthusiasm. But for some reason their always kind of... lame. I don't know why, whenever there's a big production like this, it always makes me cringe... there are examples but dammit I can't remember their names. The only exception from this is T.O.M.E. - maybe because it was based off of a series made by on person that wasn't trying to look cool or modern. And even that (I feel) is in danger of becoming boring if the characters aren't developed more.

This has the same problems - flat characters, flat jokes, and a flat storyline. But like the others, it has so much potential. Maybe the problem lies in trying too hard. trying too hard to look cool, to impress the audience, and missing the point - just go where your heart takes you - use a storyline and joke that YOU like - not ones that you think the audience will find appealing. That way it will seem less... flaccid.

Nevertheless I look forward to the upcoming shorts. I'm sorry if I've been to harsh - feel free to criticise - I hope you prove me wrong in future!

Good Luck! :)
