Recently rewatching one of the Big Gay Al episodes of South Park through the eyes of an adult I got a new take on his character.
As a child, it was really easy to assume the comedy of Big Gay Al came from his stereotypical behavior. Instead, at least the episode I watched, was commentary on how all of the straight characters assumed ill-intent for the children's new boy scout leader just because of his sexuality. When in reality, the straight scout leader ended up being the one who had ill-intent. Here, this game feels like the straight people of the town misunderstanding something they don't get.
Anyway, I think we have come a long way since 2002.
