The Director's Cut version of RAPTUS has been released for the International Day for the elimination of violence against women. Find out more at www.raptusgame.com

RAPTUS is an experimental INTERACTIVE FICTION that explores the concepts of Love and Death. What are you going to do with your own Guiltiness?
Can a single mistake destroy everything that you have?
How far would you go, to make up for your sins?
Love is a one-way street. Just like Death.

Mouse to bend character will.
Arrows to make him decide.
The illusion of free will.

Like others, I thought the love story was kind of rushed. Maybe two more chapters, one where it establishes he's not right in the head (You gotta admit, he kinda isn't), and another where it clearly shows the love between them. Perhaps another, just for reinforcement. I did like the concept, very much so.

Out of curiosity, what was with the skeleton and evil tentacles after he shares the umbrella? The skeleton might be her.....In a really creepy way, but I'm pretty sure I saw some evil tentacle thing behind the skeleton taking up half the street....Maybe it was just me 0.o (Please don't deny the skeleton's existence....That would creep me out >.<)

And finally, on a meta-point, I would like to contend I broke your illusion of free will. I clicked away from the game at the rape/murder scene. XD

AlanZucconi responds:

Skeleton? Tentacle? :o What are you talking about?
Ahaha don't worry, there are both of them! :-)
I actually can't answer to your question. Because I have no idea. :-p
Does the skeleton mean that she will die, or that she's somehow evil?
Does the tentacle follow her, or is chasing him?
I guess is nice to leave some questions ...open! :-)

An excellent game. In my opinion, try putting yourself in that guys shoes. And then make the decision. Honestly, it's as simple as that.

Do you walk away and live in regret? Or simply make things right, by joining her?

AlanZucconi responds:

Statistically, husbands and boyfriends who killed their wives and girlfriends in a RAPTUS are much more likely to commit suicide after. :-p
Sometimes, things just run out of control... this is a game, but thinking that there are people who are really struggling with this choice is really sad.

But interesting.

I appreciate the artistic aspect of this submission but the overall theme seems a little out there.

I really enjoyed the symbolism between the user andthe characters subconcious but more elaboration would set this game apart.

You said the first time, he killed. This denoted the fact that he will, or has killed again later.

If this were a dark submission about a serial killers slide into madness it may have turned into a great and unique submission.

As it stands now, it is either a glorifycation of suicide to meet the one you murder in a soulful setting or you commit a horribl crime and leave?

meh....I thin kit could be much better

So, umm... holy crap.

This... felt like it was trying really hard to be romantic (Especially in the drowning ending, when you see their ghosts floating together)... but it was about a guy who was shy to talk to a girl, then killed her because she wouldn't have sex with him.... I mean, that's extremely effed up, and then the sense of romance is played straight on top of that... it just feels wrong. Overall left me feeling creeped out (and not in the way a good scary/suspense story is supposed to).

Good music. Great visual effects. Good sense of mood (though I don't think it quiiite meshed with the story)
