I just know I'm gonna catch flak for this, but this game has way too many annoyances and flaws to get anywhere close to a perfect five. Don't get me wrong, the concept is great, and this is reasonably well put together, but a game should never be "annoying" to play. Let me explain; your core gameplay is excellent, it's just seriously undermined by things like...

- Fundamentally flawed data saving. You should already be aware of this by all the complaints you get. It depends *far* too much on the user having a vanilla interface, allowing cookies, keeping history, all that jazz. I recommend a password system instead.

- Story. Madness has never been known for its storytelling capability, but that's not what I mean. I mean the campaign mode is so long and tedious, only made worse by the constant need to start all over, that I frequently find myself zoning out for several rooms at a time. Move forward, shoot some guys, move on. Make things interesting, add a little variety to how things play out. Maybe add some explosives, or more animations?

- Control. Okay, seriously, I cannot count all the times I've been aiming at someone, and had my character pistol-whip someone else entirely, all the while my target drawing a bead. And why does my character need to automatically walk all the way over to an assault rifle behind him to pick it up? Just have him reach back a bit. That way I don't have to worry so much about whether or not the animation is going to be interrupted. Which brings me to the hilariously annoying event wherein I am boxed in by twenty or so zombies/abominations/a mag agent, and cannot fight back because they knock my gun out of my hands before I can get a shot off. I should not be using up three revives in the same room, in the same place, with the same group of enemies, because I literally could not get away from the swarm of grabbing enemies. Tighten up control - I'm supposed to feel like I am this character, not like I'm trying to steer them away from death like I'm a backseat driver.

- The "abominations." How I hate these. Okay, when designing enemies, it's okay to have some that come in huge numbers, it's fine and dandy to have the ones who soak up damage like bloody sponges, and it's entirely acceptable to have ones that do ridiculous amounts of damage, or even enemies which have two of any of those. There should *not* be an enemy which has all three, and such enemies should *never* be considered "basic enemies" of a level. That said, I can appreciate some challenge, but this layered in with the above flaws makes for what we call "fake difficulty." It was the game's fault I couldn't fight back, not mine.

- Optimization. Holy hell, this game is a beast, and the lag only makes all the above so much worse. There's been so many times I get killed/nearly get killed/get annoyed because my character is executing inputs I put in a full two seconds ago, sending himself barreling across the room into a wall, wasting ammo like mad. I understand, it's a lot of information, but all the same, this needs to be fixed at some point.

All that said, however...I still like this game. It's got variety, the concept and theory is solid, and it's got a ton of potential. As soon as all of the above is addressed, consider the other star and a half yours.

To beat the G0l3ms you must melee their armor off then shoot their heads and the g0l3m boss at the bar is HARD bw g0l3ms are the giants who are invincible to bullets
