THIS GAME IS LESS THAN 12 MINUTES CAPS-LOCK. It IS a demo, so there's a few issues unresolved, but I'm working to fix them as I get feedback!

--edit-- tweaked some balance issues, upped the framerate.
CRU is a side scrolling shooter/exploration game. This is a SHORT ASS DEMO, which means I can only show a bit of the exploration, the bulk of the demo is the shoot-em-up section.

Controls: (once you get to the shooting part!)
_----==** Z: shoot X: shield C: charge beam **==----_
The beam gauge charges when you kill an enemy; If you slaughter them like the beast you are, you'll charge it up, dude.

Please give the game changeable controls....I'm German and z-y is quite uncomfortable to reach (Even I would know that much AS3 to change that ;) ) More to say: Graphics are awesome but a bit static as already mentioned...

Still rather simple but it looks promising. The ship feels a bit slow but responsive and the utility of the shield isn't readily apparent leading to an early death but otherwise its entertaing. Awesome backgrounds and artwork, can't forget those.

Thanks man. The shield blocks bullets only, I should have been more specific about that in the tutorial! Well, it's not too late to update.

It was pretty interesting at the start, but then the shooting was...pretty boring after a while. I hope you make a full version with more, um, "playability", I guess.

The collision kills are really cheap. The opening and shutting barriers move so slowly compared to the scrolling of the screen that if you arent all the way to the right when they first appear you have no choice but to run into them.

And the boss suddenly appearing on the left side of the screen and getting an automatic collision kill (unless you know about it beforehand) was also really cheap and dumb. Id also change the health display to a bar instead of tokens.
