While the pixel artist here has skills I don't like how so many people are obsessed with imitating the Cave Story style. I don't mean to sound unfair, but when I see this style I feel like I'm playing a Cave Story fangame. Idea here I guess is decent, but somewhere in the line of cliche seeing how there's plenty of "dark/flipped/mirror world"- kinda ideas as of late, for one it's not a very spectacular experience.
As for performance maybe the most pointed out fact, it's awful for few of us, hence we should assume there's something wrong. That noise effect might be the cause of this. Not only it's a flash killer, it's also a very easy and overused way to express distortion, darkness and such, which I believe you went for. Also as a vivid pixel art fan and hobbyist I find it a very cheap and dirty solution.
Music is well composed, but needs variety. It gets repeative and boring already after hearing it three times. Tell you what though, the atmospheric change when you go to underworld is a jackpot.
mistery. not much info. nice story. good music. this is my kinda game. good work.
Interesting and fresh
I really enjoyed playing through this! I'm sure I'll return to play again from time to time too. The gameplay was great, I had no issues with lag or anything. Also, it was relatively challenging in some spots of the puzzles. Overall, I loved the feel and play-ability of the game. Very sad and kinda simple yet deep story. There should be more games like this out there!
Also, the music reminded me of parts of the Golden Sun series, which is really cool. Great job on the soundtrack; it was beautiful, sad and mysterious, which fits perfectly!
Keep up the creativity!
that is the only real issue for this game. but interesting overall.
"Near Death Experience!"
Okay, after careful consideration due to a lag issue yesterday I am happy to report that this game has pleased me on a true artistic level. The control scheme was flawless as was the game mechanics themselves. With that out of the way I have to say I'm astonished at how well using life and death as part of a mechanic for getting through levels has worked on this platformer. A very original idea that has worked well in a very few other games, (Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver), and the music fit the dark and dreary landscapes between the two realms. An instant favorite for me and for that I applaud you my friend. 5/5 10/10
