EDIT: Sweet merciful hams. Thank you thank you thank you thank you for the front page, NG. Thank you sooooooooo much. You all rock.

It's that guy that made that dumb pony cartoon bringing you something completely different. And by completely different I mean it's exactly the same as everything else but everything is completely different. Are you excited yet? Because you should be.

Back in the month of August, in the mystical land of Florida, a totally rad group of rapping pirates asked me if I had what it took to make a three and a half minute long music video in less than a month. After an intense two week grind of animating and growing a beard, this was the result. If you like the music, go let them know on their youtube channel. They're pretty great people.

Technical stuff: This was animated beginning to end over a two week period at 12fps with flash puppets. The BGs aren't the greatest, and I apologize for that. I would have gone back to spruce up the BGs but I simply haven't had time with me boosting my portfolio and working on solo projects, but again, this was a two week animation sprint and I'm very proud of what I did. Rough storyboards and BGs were provided by my brother, Scott DeWitt. Without him, this simply would not have gotten done. Mad props.

On a side note, I want to publicly thank Captain Dan Dolan and his crew for this amazing opportunity. If you hadn't asked me to do this, I probably wouldn't have gained the momentum to keep animating like I am right now. You guys are awesome.

PS: Sorry for the huge file size. Dunno how I pulled that off. Also the youtube version is better. Less chuggy and some content is missing because I have no idea where the polished version ran off to. But you probably won't notice :(

How about this

One Piece vs Naruto

SodaKick responds:

I'm more of a Clockwork Orange vs Dead Poet's Society kind of guy.

Best Rap I've heard in Years.

Good animation with truly clever lyrics and music. You can't ask for much better than this.

I hope this works out for both the rappers and you because it's lots of fun, I LOLed a lot, and liked the idea of picturing that hypothetic rivalry between PRTs an NNJs, great job, congratulations and keep it up (If I were you I'll try to either remake this on a higher detail, no more puppets or reused BGs, or make it with a nother song of those guys, I'm sure you are able to make it extraordinary)

SodaKick responds:

Thank you for the kind words! Compliments make animation all worth it, but constructive criticism always helps any artist.

Personally though, I like the idea of keeping old things untouched for better or for worse. It can show how much you progress with your art work and to me it shows a great deal of self respect. And while I don't object to using flash puppets when done well, I will say that I have some plans in the future to do some things traditional and hopefully pirate rap themed. But don't quote me on that!

Never really understood the Ninja Vs Pirate rivaly

Nice animation music video we got here. :) I'm not into Rap-music but this was ok for me. Animation was good and both humor and lyrics were clever and hilarious. The video was well written and enjoyable. Not the top notch, but I liked it anyway. :)

As for personal opion, I never understood the rivally between Pirates and Ninjas? How come two types of "classes"/characters from completely different genre, from completely different scenarios, from completely different settings and with completely different charasteristics, have been put up as bitter rivals? Besides, BOTH NINJAS AND PIRATES ARE AWESOME :D

Neitherless, good music video we got here ;)

SodaKick responds:

You think that's bad? You should see the rivalry between leprechauns and lawn gnomes. I've never seen message boards get red with anger over such a silly debate. I mean it's pretty obvious that a lawn gnome would win. Lawns can be anywhere, and what kind of killing machine would only show up at the ends of rainbows and in cereal. I mean really.
