Well, there isn't much to say about it. "Battleship" is a classic and, well, strategy only plays a minor part in it, as luck decides the outcomes. Just hunt & destroy as fast as possible (hunt in a diagonal pattern, destroy adjacent tiles of hits).
Hunting for the mines is a little to tedious.
Faithful adaptation of a classic
So far all reviews have pretty much been complaints about the rules of the game. The creator is simply making a flash version of Battleship, not create an entirely new game, so if you have an issue with the amount of luck involved in locating the final 4 bombs, your issue is with the original pencil/paper game that's over 100 years old.
As for the game, I thought it was a good flash adaptation. Clean looking flash, nice sfx. I like that it offers an auto-arrange for your ships if you're just playing on easy this is ideal because perfect ship placement isn't necessary to win. The AI is going to pick squares in an increasingly efficient manner based on which difficulty setting you've chosen, some reviews have mention that the AI is predictable. Well, the most efficient manner to search for ships in a square grid is going to be the same every time so long as the dimensions of the board stay the same.
I really liked the game, thought it was well-made and bug-free. I thought the medal for 40% accuracy on Challenging was a reasonable goal for a medal, would've like to have seen a few more medals but that's my only criticism. I expected Battleship, and that's exactly what I got from this game.
It seems familiar
This reminded me of "Battleship" a lot. I imagine you could have simply called it that and it would have made as much sense. What I did like was that it actually was a game that had a lot going on. Now, I've only ever played it on Easy Mode, but I imagine it gets harder. What I especially like is how you have so many oppurtunities to destroy your enemy. The sounds, especially the way the missiles sink is pretty authentic.
I also like how it doesn't try to be too flashy or anything. Then again, I might have liked it more if it was flashy. It was still nicely detailed, it just took a bit too long to get used to it. I suggest you maybe try to have more going on in the game and probably just rename it "Battleship". It reminds me of how I saw a poster for that in the theater, yes, they're making a movie out of it!
